XP from Food Allergy: Possible milk intolerance?

Hi there! I've been lurking on this board for a bit and have a couple of questions for you, if you don't mind!
A little background: I am EBF my 2 mo DS, who has been having the occasional specks of blood in his stool. The NP (not who we normally see) said he absolutely has a milk protein intolerance and I was to go dairy free. I spoke with his regular pedi who said he wasn't having any other symptoms, so it was possible that wasn't the case.

My questions:
1) If DS is a generally happy baby, with no symptoms other than the blood, whose opinion are you inclined to go with?
2) Are there any tests to determine for sure?
3) This is more of a BF question, but could it be caused by a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance? My MIL keeps him while I work, and she just told me she steals from one storage bottle if she doesn't think there's enough. All this is done without getting the fat off the sides of the bottle :/.
Thanks so much for your help!!

Re: XP from Food Allergy: Possible milk intolerance?

  • Did the pedi examine your LO? Anal fissures can cause random specks of blood in the stool. Are they bright red or more brownish? No green or mucousy stools?

  • Thank you for your replies! When I see the blood specks, it can be in a normal stool or sometimes a little bit of a greenish stool. The green stool is what made me question the hm/fm imbalance actually. I've had oversupply issues since he was born, and they were very similar in appearance to before we were doing single side feeds. There's never been any mucous that I've noticed though.

Of course, My body's version of AF (lots of cramping, heavy spotting) has shown up again, so he's really cranky anyway. The last time AF was in town he had the same response, so I'm not sure what the fussiness is a factor of right now :(. Lovely.

    Thanks again for your help!
