Crib Mattress recommendations

Does anyone have any recommendations on a crib mattress? DH and I went to Buy Buy baby today and the sales person got him set on the Monarch by Colgate. Has anyone used this mattress and if so is it worth the price? If not what do you recommend? Thanks for the help.

Re: Crib Mattress recommendations

  • We have the Sealy Soybean Foam Core mattress. It is waterproof and super light making sheet changes easy. It was highly rates in the Baby Bargains book. https://www.amazon.com/Sealy-Soybean-Foam-Core-Crib-Mattress/dp/B001N4LE5M/ref=sr_1_2?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1399277130&sr=1-2&keywords=crib+mattress#productDetails

  • Thanks ladies. I will check these out.

@CplusJ=S‌ I love that book. I was trying to get him to look into that one.

  • I can't speak for quality or how long they last...but I'm just looking for something firm and functional. Baby doesn't need memory foam or anything super fancy.

  • This is what I am trying to explain to DH. The one he is set on is $350. It seems ridiculous to me to spend that much on a mattress especially when there are all these other things we will need. He doesn't understand the concept of a shower either. He thinks because you register for it someone will buy it. I said no one is going to buy a $350 mattress.

I got one at burlington coat factory for $70.  As long as it is firm and fits in the crib you are good.  It is currently over 3 years old and looks new still.  You really don't need to go with a super expensive mattress.  But it never hurts to register for the more expensive one and then buy a cheaper one if no one buys the expensive one.

  • My thoughts on registering for expensive items is that one of the few people who may spend that much money would end up spending on on item x instead of something else. So I am still being price conscious on my registry. If someone says I have $50 to spend, I want them to be able to get as much as they can for that amount. If someone does want to spend $300, I would rather they buy the monitor, breast pump, etc. People don't go in and say I am going to buy a mattress, whatever the cost. They have a dollar figure. Get the most out of it for them and for you.
I completely agree with you! Which is what I was trying to explain to him. And I don't expect a lot of people to buy big gifts and there are things we need so I think we should try and make it more cost effective for ourselves too. I know once the shower is over and I need the mattress and no one has bought it I am not going to have the energy or want to pick something else out and will end up just buying the one on the registry.

  • We picked a cheap one. Lol. I don't see the baby complaining about backaches, so I didn't really care about the mattress as long as it seems safe.
