Are you kidding me!?!

Went to exchange some maternity pants and looked at Pea in the Pod brand..... $115!!! Wtf, Im so cheap when it comes to normal pants let alone ones you'll only wear about 6 months. I hate spending $30 on regular ones ;)

Re: Are you kidding me!?!

  • I only have pea in the pod bc my mil bought it for me last time. It's not worth it to me to have high quality for 6-8 months. When I'm done I intend to sell especially the pea in the pod stuff.

  • you definitely don't need to spend that much on maternity pants. Look at some other stores. But also consider, when you are super pregnant and have two pairs of pants you can wear in September and November, you want them to still be good. And you'll probably wear them in December, and if you really love them, you'll save them for the next pregnancy. I got my favorite pants and shorts at motherhood maternity during a sale last pregnancy, but my skinny jeans are a little worn out. I'll be checking out some other stores I skipped last time, as well as some consignment stores. If you find some you love make sure to share!
  • I went to Destination Maternity yesterday. I started looking at the front of the store and once I saw some of the price tags ($200 for a pair of jeans you will wear for 6 months?!) I quickly found my way to the back of the store where the $25-40 items are! Even at $30 a pop I feel like I am wasting money. I have tried to shop at consignment stores but it's difficult to find much in my size (extra small). Most of the stuff I have bought so far I think I will still be able to wear after the baby is born--empire waist tops, etc. But I imagine that's not going to work for what I will need to wear towards the end of 3rd tri.

  • I wore my motherhood ones all pregnancy. Still have them though theyre a size or 2 too big this time. Macys had some on sale for $20 but normally $29, I can handle that.
  • This exact same thing happened to me today. I'd never been inside a Pea in the Pod, so I had no idea that all these designer jeans (which I don't buy in regular styles) are offered for maternity. If I had endless supplies of money, I might buy a $189 pair of maternity jeans but that is not my reality and will likely never be…so I think I might just get some from Gap.

  • I'm a lawyer and am having a hell of a time funding business clothes that fit. I was basically willing to pay anything for a few outfits I can wear to clients, court etc. I have to wear a suit but the maternity suits are too big in the jacket (for now) and I can't fit in my regular suit pants or skirts or dresses anymore. Destination maternity had one or two options that really didn't work because of the jacket and then had Tahari suits that were like $500-600. I gave up on that store for now.

I was so desperate for a suit to wear on my biz trip this week I just went and bought a non maternity suit in a bigger pant size. Maybe I will be able to wear it this month and post baby. Clothes are so frustrating right now!

I was complaining the other day about not finding anything I liked and someone said her sister shopped pea in the pod. I started liking some of what I saw, till I saw the price tags. I usually shop motherhood maternity.

  • We don't have to spend hundreds of dollars to get "quality" clothing. A $30 pair of pants can be just as good as a $130 pair of pants.

Waist bands and I just aren't getting along so I think it will be all dresses for me the next 6 months. Plus a dress is a whole outfit so it saves money not having to buy pants AND shirts!
  • I went away for a week to Florida and when I got home none of my work dress pants fit! I got by last week casually because I didn't have any serious meetings. So I have been on a serious hunt and have been as aghast as many others by the lack of options and/or the prices.

I'm so lucky that I checked kijiji yesterday and there was a "lot" of clothes with quite a bit of work attire (12 pr pants, 2 skirts, a casual dress and 30 blouses/tops) for $200. I drove about an hour to get it this afternoon and am thrilled.

  • there's probably a middle ground between the maternity mall stores and really cheap places. personally i don't mind shopping online: gilt.com has nice maternity clothes, also shopbop's sale maternity section. i am planning a trip to buffalo exchange for some bigger clothes because in my city we have an upper end selection.

  • I have a few pea in the pod things, most of my stuff is from the gap and the loft.
  • I was unhappy with the cheap clothes I bought last time and I think hating everything I had to wear contributed to the holidays sucking and me being miserable for the last four months.

I really believe in buying quality clothing, a few pieces at a time, and choosing fabrics that last and hold up with multiple washings. Cheap fabrics aren't going to hold up to being washed five times a week for seven months straight.

Quality fabrics don't have to be expensive, but they aren't going to be the cheapest thing out there either.

I just ordered a bunch of pieces from ASOS, but I LOVE the dress I bought from Seraphine. It was $114, but I am def going to get my money's worth during my pregnancy and after.

I've been leaning towards buying dresses because they are more forgiving as far as weight gain goes and it's so much easier than putting an outfit together. Plus, summertime pregnancy is all about cute dresses.

I am a SAHM, so I don't have a big clothing budget, but id rather wear three beautiful outfits I love 24/7 than buy ten outfits that are just okay.

    Just my $.02

  • Gap and h&m have nice, reasonably priced maternity clothing. Also, Zulily is a great app to find designer clothing 50% off or more!!!

  • I'm usually a cheapo when it comes to clothes.  Paying big money for things like that kills me.  HOWEVER, I was shopping at a maternity consignment store with my best friend and we found a pair of Pea in the Pod maternity jeans for $25.  They are the best jeans ever.  On that same trip I bought a pair of Motherhood jeans and they just don't fit as well.  They're really bunchy where the waist meets the elastic.  I wear long shirts, so it's not such a big deal, but those Pea in the Pod ones beat them hands down.  I would consider paying full price for another pair if I can ever find time to shop.

  • I love my loft work pants. I got them when they were having a 50% off sale
  • Honestly, if you buy them now, you'll still probably wear maternity clothes for the next 9-12 months because they're way more comfortable after baby. I bought stuff that cost 30-40$ a piece last time and ended up wearing them out by the end of my pregnancy, so I might be spending a little more this time.

If you plan on having more kids, like I do, I would rather have 5-6 pricey outfits that will last than have to buy 5-6 cheap outfits more than once.

@hiketheworld‌ - I have similar wardrobe requirements, and I've been wearing pants a size up for a few weeks. Totally worth it, and I'm sure I'll wear them after baby for awhile.

  • I am typically the person who buys cheaper clothes because we just don't have the money to spend on clothes.During my last pregnancy, I found a pair of pea in the pod Mavi jeans on the clearance rack (still $70) and tried them on along with almost every style of motherhood maternity jeans in the store. There was no comparison between the two brands and I ended up splurging on the more expensive ones because I couldn't justify spending $20 on a pair of jeans that didn't fit very well. They lasted through the entire pregnancy and I wore them for a few months after, my sister in law borrowed them when she was pregnant and they are still in fantastic shape.

I have found a lot of really nice things on resale sites for really cheap and I have gotten a few things off zulily as well.

The last dress I bought, pre-pregnancy was my wedding dress. Needless to say, I don't wear them much. Or at least I didn't until recently. Pants suck right now. I am so much more comfy in a dress and leggings that over the past three weeks I've bought about six dresses. I am an avid goodwill shopper, and have found some extremely good quality and expensive brands for cheap. I often get brand new items, with original tags still on. This goes for maternity and my regular stuff. It takes time to search out the good stuff from the frumpy moomoos and poor quality things, but it's worth it as I hate paying full price for clothing, but also hate sacrificing quality.

  • For gap, h&m, loft etc, do they have maternity sections in their stores or just online? I've never seen any maternity clothes there before.

@raelynn71109‌ if you are wanting consignment you should try poshmark. It's an app that people sell their clothes and accessories on and you can search by size and brand. A lot of it is NWT or gently used. I have bought several really great things on there! They have everything from high to low end with pretty good pricing.

  • I think the prices at pea in a pod are ridiculous, b/c most of it is exactly the same as motherhood and you pay 3x more for it.
I agree you have to have quality stuff and that's why I spent like $60 on gap maternity jeans. But honestly I need a full maternity wardrobe. I can't afford to blow over $100 on a single item.

  • I was tempted to spend $100 on a pair of pants this time around. They would have been the only jeans I bought this whole pregnancy but they came with a hole already in the knee! I'm sorry but I'm not spending that much money on pants with a hole in the knee!!
  • Eta: it's extremely hard to fine pants in my size that actually fit! That's why I was so tempted

All of the brick & mortar stores I've been to haven't had a maternity section. Boo...
