Waking baby for feedings, need advice!

So LO was born at 8 lb 13 oz and discharged at 8 lb 5 oz. We have been monitoring weight with ped and she has yet to regain birth weight. I've been supplementing with an ounce of BM after each feeding. This past Friday, she was 2 weeks and weighed 7 lb 12 oz. Doc isn't too concerned bc of diaper output. She's peeing and pooping like a champ and a happy baby overall. My question is...I still have to wake her every 3 hours for feedings until she regains birth weight, but she hates waking up. I haven't tried letting her sleep until she's ready to wake up and feed bc of the weight issue. What are some suggestions on how to wake her for feedings? I dont feel she nurses as well, esp at night bc she isn't fully alert. Any advice is appreciated!!
TIA!

I second the diaper change. How would you feel about pumping and then giving a bottle for the feeds that are 'forced' on her? The bottle flow requires less work for LO than nursing, but it's more difficult for you to wake up, pump, then wake her & feed. Although if you have a partner available overnight it could be their job to feed LO while you go back to sleep.

  • Same - a diaper change. Once on the breast I rub the palm of her hand or between shoulder blades to keep her up

  • When we first wake up, I take her to the nursery and unswaddle. I usually open the diaper up, maybe use a wipe, even though she tends to be dry until after feedings and then put the diaper back on. I leave legs free so I can tickle while feeding. I usually give her the bottle after bfing, and she wakes up completely for that and chugs it down. I can try giving her that first and then see how she nurses after. I haven't tried that yet. For some strange reason, she doesn't seem to mind diaper changes!

  • Second the diaper change. Also we strip down to just a diaper, tickle feet and belly. If I'm desperate a cool cloth on her face and neck.

Diaper change.  Even if he isn't wet or dirty, just undressing him enough to check his diaper wakes him up enough to eat.  And eating puts him back to sleep so he goes back down easily (usually).

Diaper change, and then leaving him just in a diaper for the feeding. Putting a very small amount of water on LO's lips (recommended by lactation consultant) often gets him interested in eating. In a pinch, I use a cold, wet washcloth rubbed on his back and next. He also seems to really dislike burping where he's sat straight up so I use that too. Basically, I try to make him angry, which gets him to want to eat, usually.
