Trouble TTC

I gotta say ....it feels good to be on a break!

I haven't checked in with you ladies in the last week or so.  As I suspected, my beta blood test came back as a BFN (not surprising after HPT was neg on 12 and 13dpiui).  This board was a great source of support for me during my first IUI cycle ....can't thank you all enough for that!  The game plan at this point for me is to take this as a break cycle.  My RE office emailed me and said the blood test was negative.  My right ovary (the only one I have) responded very well to the Clomid and they had hoped this cycle would work for me.  I had an HSG done in Oct which showed some "filling defects" (presumably because of my uterine fibroids).  So I'm going into the RE office on Mon to have a saline sonogram done to see if the fibroids are possibly preventing an embryo from implanting.  I'm a bit nervous to see what we find but I'm looking forward to hopefully having more answers!  And finding out if surgery is recommended for the fibroids.

IF still sucks but I do have to admit that taking a break cycle feels REALLY good!  No drugs.  No weekly RE visits.  No counting time in terms of how many days post IUI I am (LOL).  Relaxing, enjoying the company of friends without being distracted by IF brain (well, not as much as during an active cycle at least), drinking wine!!  And looking forward to a relaxing vacation in Kauai May 7-12 for my birthday!  Turning 34 on May 8th  :)  I'll probably be back at it in the cycle that starts end of May - but ahhhh, right now I'm loving this break.

I hope everyone else is doing well and staying sane through this!  Hugs and I'll be checking in even though I'm not posting as much as I did last month.  :)

Me 34   Him 33

Me - Left salpingo-oophorectomy at 19 due to large cyst/torsion  and 2 large uterine fibroids found at age 30
Him - Borderline low sperm count (correcting through Fertility Blend supplement)

Married 8/20/2011
TTC #1 since Jan 2013
First appointment with RE 10/2013.
April 2014 - Clomid 100mg CD3-7.  HCG shot CD10 IUI #1 done on 4/12/14 (CD12) ....BFN
May 2014 - Break cycle to repeat saline sonogram and re-group.  Travel to Kauai 5/7-5/12 (Yay!!)
June 2014 - Clomid 150mg CD4-8.  HCG shot CD14.  IUI#2 done on 6/9 and 6/10 (CD15-16) w/ Prometrium suppositories during TWW .... BFN
July 2014 - Clomid 150mg CD3-7.  Ultrasound CD12 - 4 mature follies! HCG trigger shot CD12 AM.  IUI#3 on CD13 w/ Prometrium suppositories during TWW ....BFN
July 2014 - Repeat ultrasound done to measure size of fibroid - 8x9cm (the size of a grapefruit!) Surgery referral made.
August 2014 - MRI done which revealed 2 fibroids: a 13x15cm fibroid as well as an 8x7cm one.  Super freak out mode over surgery plan.  OB-GYN/surgeon said surgery would most likely have to be a laparotomy (open abdominal surgery)
August 2014 - After a 2nd opinion, plan to take Lupron x 2 months to shrink fibroids then laparoscopic/robotic myomectomy.  Surgery date is set for Nov 21st!
November 2014 - Robotic myomectomy done (2 large fibroids removed, mild endo found).  Benched x 3 months

PAIF/SAIF welcome

Re: I gotta say ....it feels good to be on a break!

  • I 100% agree with you.

I think I went into our 1st IUI a bit naive. Although my husbands MFI is pretty bad and we know that we will probably end up the IVF route once I get my weight down a bit. But in the end I just knew that I needed a break and it really did US as a couple good. Yes, IF was still on mind, but for the first time in almost 1 1/2 yrs. we weren't as stressed.
We have decided due to my husbands insurance changing that we are back in the game this month for IUI#2.

I hope you have an incredibly wonderful birthday in Kauai and good luck once you start back!

Enjoy every moment of your vacation!

  • A break does sound like a great approach! I just did my first IUI and I have 3 days remaining to AF but had a BFN. I might take your approach and take a break.
  • I know exactly what you mean. After many months of weekly to daily doctors appts, it feels so good to not have to deal with it for a little while at least!! We are also going on vacation (out west - Grand Canyon and such) and will hopefully just get to enjoy each other without worrying about injections, timing everything right, and getting my veins all bruised up! Good luck to you and have fun on your vacation!!
