June 2014 Moms

It's minivan purchase day. I should just buy the high-waisted stonewashed mom jeans on my way home.

Goodbye, cool SUV. With the impending arrival of little lady #3, the allure of auto-opening doors has become too strong. My appointment is at 11:30. Probably an Odyssey. My descent down the ski slope of middle-aged mommyhood is accelerating, and I am happy, though I might also need to get one of those mom bob haircuts too. And conservative sneakers. And a coupon organizer.

  • The Odyssey is like the Queen of mini vans so it's all cool. It's the only mini van I'd consider driving. Plus it rocks for car seats and has a lot of top tether points for forward facing car seats. Yes, I'm a car seat nerd.

I drive a 12 year old Odyssey, so it does not even look cool, but I love it!  The power sliding doors are amazing.

  • I'm jealous!  I would love an Odyssey but they're a bit more than we wanted to spend right now.  (We recently bought a used CRV which I love, but if we had 3 or more kids I think I could have convinced DH to get the mini van.)  Enjoy!

Even though I previously stated that we would absolutely never have a minivan, we got the Odyssey this year.  It is a great car (for a minivan ;) ), and the cargo space is what made me give in.  We routinely take the four dogs on vacations with us, so with them, two kids so young and close in age, and all the crap that we would have to lug to the beach with us, there was just no other way we could do it and be comfortable for the ride.  I hate/love that my husband's practicality is wearing off on me.  I will say that I have yet to drive it - right now it is his car until baby #2 gets here.  My car (Camry) is not really much of an improvement though (yet another car "battle" lost). :(

  • I am so torn on minivans. I would love a minivan for all the power doors and that built in vacuum *swoon* but I am a diehard Volvo driver and I love my SUV. if only Volvo would make a minivan I would be in heaven!

also, I totally bought myself mom shorts for the summer. they come down to my knees and make my ass look huge, no shame.
  • Another Sienna Mom here and I love my swagger wagon!!  Nicest car I have ever had and makes life with kids so much easier.  ENJOY!

  • I feel your pain. We took the plunge and although it is super convenient, I can't wait to go back to having something other than a minivan. I'm just not into minivans.

  • We got the Odyssey with #3 and I literally cried when we bought it. I did NOT want a minivan. I was so embarrassed to drive it at first. Now it is a lifesaver! I love everything about it!
  • I am so jealous of the sliding doors. They'd make preschool drop off and pick ups SO much easier, especially with this big belly in the way all the time. I'm sure with #3 one is in our future, but I still feel way too young, even though we're almost 32 and 33. Can't we really be minivan material?! I think DH will have a harder time than me, but I'm ALMOST ready for the plunge.

  • I drove a minivan before I had kids (usually borrowed my grandmother's or step-dad's). I loved driving them, and honestly won't be upset when it hits that level for us. Except for the non-4WD aspect of it.

I'm pretty sure Toyota makes an all wheel drive minivan.
