Gas wakes LO up early

So DS is starting to try to sleep through the night but he'll start grunting an hour and a half before he actually eats just to work out gas. If I don't keep putting his pacifier in his mouth when he starts stirring too much, he'll start to fuss and get close to actually waking up. Then I'll have to feed him earlier than I needed to. Any suggestions how to fix this? I hate being awake an hour and a half earlier than necessary just to be on pacifier duty. I have tried giving him gas drops after his last feeding before I pop him on the boob to top him off. I'd give it to him after I top him off but he falls asleep on the boob. Help. :-/

    DS has started doing this, too. He's not nearly close to STTN though, so it cuts my precious three-hour-increments way down. My pedi said he doesn't believe in the gas drops or anything (just that newborns have immature digestive systems and gas is normal) so we haven't tried those methods. I'm just waiting it out I guess!
