Pregnant after IF

Baby is here!

Hi Ladies! I just wanted to share with you that our baby BOY arrived this past Saturday! We were team green, so it was such a sweet surprise to hear "It's a boy!" after waiting for nearly 40 weeks (though we were pretty certain baby would be a boy). My labor started on Friday with some very mild contractions throughout the day They'd come every 15-20 minutes, but DH was certain he'd miss the birth so he came home early from work. Nothing happened the rest of the night until around midnight when it felt like my period had started. It turned out to be my mucous plug, which I continued to lose throughout the night. I started to feel more contractions but was able to sleep (lightly) through them. Around 5:30, I woke up to more painful and consistent contractions. They were pretty irregular ranging from 2-6 minutes in between, but the more frequent ones were only about 30 seconds in duration. I called my doctor who was already at the hospital with a few patients in labor. She told me to eat some breakfast, take a shower and get myself ready to come in but not to rush unless they became more consistent. I woke DH up around 6:30 (who was peacefully snuggling with DH who crawled in to bed 10 minutes earlier), and told him to call his parents to get ready to come over and get himself showered to go to the hospital.

We all got ready and waited for ILs to come over. By this time, the contractions were becoming more intense and it felt like eternity for them to get there. We checked into the hospital around 9 and were annoyed to find out that the hospital had lost our pre-registration paperwork. But they got us in quickly. I bypassed triage and got set up in a delivery room. I was about 3 cm dilated but they didn't want to check to closely because they said my water was "bulging." Contractions became more intense, but I held off on the epidural. At 12:00, I turned over during a particularly intense contraction and felt a snap. My water had broken. After that, the contractions became more painful and more frequent. I got the epidural around 1:00 and had a pretty scary moment when 15 minutes after receiving it, my blood pressure tanked. I immediately got extremely lightheaded, sweaty and nauseous. The nurses were so great and so calm. They gave me oxygen and started checking for baby's heart rate, which they could no longer hear on the monitor. It seemed like an eternity and I became panicked, but finally they were able to find it.

After that, we waited around until I was complete dilated. I was so numb from the epidural. I didn't remember feeling that way with DD, but I literally could not move from the waist down. I started to feel some anxiety about being able to push and didn't want to relive the pushing experience from DD's delivery (2 1/2 hours... ouch). When my doctor came in, she checked me and said that baby was already far down and that I was clearly at a 10. We did a  practice push and then she told me to stop so they could prep. 3 contractions of pushing and baby was here! I got to watch him come out and it felt like a dream. They laid him on my chest and I completely fell in love all over again. It was such a positive birthing experience and we are so in awe of our little man! We named him James Henry.

So far, adjusting to life as a family of 4 has been pretty easy. DH is amazing and helps so much. I'm nervous about how things will be when he goes back to work in a week and a half. DD has been such a great helper. She loves her little brother and likes to refer to him by his full name or as her "little dude." I get really weepy when I think of how big she is to us now and how mature she's been throughout this whole experience. She has not shown any signs of jealousy and just continues to go about her day as if nothing has changed -- except she stops every few minutes to come kiss her little brother.

Ladies, I don't think I would have ever survived the pains of secondary infertility or the uncertainties of pregnancy if it weren't for your showering of support. I am so incredibly appreciative of all of you and I pray that your pregnancies run smoothly. I hope it's okay for me to continue to lurk and check in on you all. I pray that you find the comfort on this board that I found and that your sweet babies will be in your arms soon.
