Trouble TTC

N3TR Seattle

How's the public transport? Is it easy to walk around the city?

H and I are going to Seattle in. Couple of weeks and I'm trying to decide if we should stay by the airport and take transit out to the city (we can walk around & take limited transit) then head back to the airport hotel at night. Or take transit to someplace within the city (to the hotel) from the airport. Then just walk around the city.

Any recs on where and what areas to stay?

H and I managed to get around San Francisco, Washington DC, Denver, and Miami just fine on public transit. It was taking transit from the airport to an area and walking majority of the trip.

I'm really having a hard time remembering if we stayed near the airport or downtown... I just remember staying at the Westin because I got a great discount :)

We didn't have a car and walked and took transit everywhere and I feel like we saw everything we wanted to see in Seattle without a car. (Although we did pick up a car the last day to drive down the coast to SF.)

  • I'm in Seattle all the time (I live a couple hours from there) and I hate parking downtown or anywhere that's worth going to. It's busy and expensive and even keeping your car in the hotel parking lot could cost you a small fortune. I would take public transportation. I've done it plenty of times and it's pretty quick and convenient, especially for most of the places you're going to go to. Plus, there's a light rail in some areas. Have fun on your trip!

    Do you need any recommendations?

Thanks ladies! Much appreciated. I don't think we need any recs but am always open to them. You just never know. It's good to have a little direction. We normally just fly someplace and go with the flow. Whatever happens happens.

We didn't plan on renting a car and will only be there two nights. I'll be sure to book a hotel downtown and look into that free bus.

That's sad. But the prices aren't to bad and being able to hop on and off with a card isn't bad. Austin used to have a free shuttle called the Dillo. It's no longer free either.

  • I love Seattle!!! My mom and I went there a few years ago and had a great time. The one thing that we did argue about was the driving/parking situation though, lol! Parking is expensive and hard to find so I think you are smart to do the public transit. I've heard that they have a fantastic system and we saw a ton of people using it.

We stayed in Queen Anns Hill and it was great. You could see the Space Needle from our room :) There is a fantastic park up at the top of the neighborhood that has an amazing view of the city. We loved the aquarium and Pikes Place Market. We also took the ferry to Bainbridge Island and it was wonderful!

    Good luck and have fun!

We stayed near Pike's and it was a great place for breakfasts. Seattle is a very walkable city so another rec for Staunton downtown. If you have time, take the underground tour. It was fascinating.
Ready to take the road less traveled.
