Postpartum rash - on you, not your baby

I have birth to my son four weeks ago tomorrow and just this week I've broken out in this incredible rash. It started between my thighs and moved to my bottom. Itched at night and after a hot shower. Benadryl gel seemed to help that but I now have the rash on my ankles, arms, cheeks...on my ears. It itches once in a while, like if something ribs my arm, it'll become itritated. My cheeks and ears feel like theyre on fire. Yowsa! Not looking for medical advice because I am going To the doctor on Monday, but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or if its pretty common. If so, what did you do/take? I was told that Benadryl pills will dry up my milk supply, and that Benadryl gel will at least relieve the itching, and as for the cause...who knows?! ...it's kinda miserable...

  • That sounds terrible! After I had my first I got a weird rash on my upper thighs. I put diaper cream on it just randomly hoping it would help and it actually did clear up after 2 days of using it. Maybe try that or cortisone cream until you go to the doctor.

  • I developed PUPPP inside my tummy stretch marks three weeks before baby was due. After she came the rash spread all over my body! It was horrible! Nothing helped and now I'm on a steroid to get it out of my system! That seems to be working thank goodness!! Good luck!!

  • I've had one on my lower abdomen....

I'm pretty sure it was a reaction to the
one amazing stretchy underwear the hospital gives you.... boo. I stopped putting them on and have been trying not to itch andit does look better.
  • I developed a rash 3 weeks PP. Started at ankles and moved up my legs. Now at 6 weeks PP it is finally going away. Doctor recommended aquaphor and hydrocortisone cream. I bought a big tub of it and put it on AM and PM. I was also told a benadryl pill is ok.
    Good luck - it sucks!
  • Thank you! Yes, I've never had anything like it in my life - it's unbelievably uncomfortable.
  • I had that and it turned out to be a staph infection from the hospital. You may need to get onto antibiotics
