3rd Trimester

Question about anterior placenta and baby movement --- a little worried!

Ok, so I was told by my doctor that I probably won't feel the baby move as much as I would if my placenta was posterior. I do feel her move--maybe about 5 times a day, but the movements are so subtle.

I'm starting to get worried though.  I keep hearing other moms say that the kicks and jabs from baby sometimes are painful and take their breath away!  I have never experienced anything like this!

I will be 29 weeks tomorrow and already had three ultrasounds due to some other issue that they thought was going on, but now baby is ok.  I'll be having my fourth ultrasound next month because they told me that she was measuring on the "big" side -- at 27 weeks she was measuring 3 pounds!  I tested negative for gestational diabetes, so with a baby that large--wouldn't you think I should feel some strong kicks and jabs?

Have any of you ladies had or have an anterior placenta and haven't felt much movement even into the third trimester??

Just looking for some reassurance and to see that I'm not the only one going through this.  Thanks for listening!!  :o)

  • I had a posterior placenta with DD and now an anterior placenta with this one....the movements are more subtle with this one, like DH can't feel them as hard as he could with DD. I still feel lots of movement though. I really think everyone is different, I've had friends with more "calm" babies...mine tend to be spastic :)

  • I have one. Her kicks have just started to get uncomfortable. I didn't feel consistent, daily movement until 30 weeks at least.

I have an anterier placenta and although I feel baby move (a lot!) there is no pain at all associated with the kicks/punches. None have took my breath away so not sure if it's because of the anterier placenta?

  • I have an anterior placenta this time, and I don't feel the movement not nearly as strongly as I did with my son. They are exactly in the same breech position, but my son definitely hurt me more:) I can actually feel where my placenta is by touching my belly because the part around my belly button is very soft, and I never feel the movement there. The rest of my belly is a little harder and I can feel the baby's body parts.

This was me with DS for my first pregnancy - this time I have a posterior placenta with DD and you wouldn't believe the difference.  Now I know what everyone was telling me about the first time - I never had kicks/jabs take my breath away with DS but I do this time with DD.

    GL!

  • I had an anterior placenta with my twins and didn't feel any movement until 22 weeks.  I eventually felt crowding and pressure on my ribs, but the super strong kicks were far and few between.  And those didn't come until later in the third trimester.  Both my twins were a healthy 6 lbs when they were born at 38 weeks.

I much prefer a posterior placenta because frequent, strong movements are certainly reassuring!

  • This is baby number 4 for me and my first anterior placenta.  100% different!!  I feel very little movement if any throughout the day.  My other three were like mini soccer players.  I am almst 35 weeks and the movement has not changed for me since I first felt it.  I go in for NST's twice a week to keep track of baby because of the lack of movement.  Baby is doing great in there so far.  No you are not the only one!!!
  • I had an anterior placenta with my first and never felt anything in the middle of my belly.  Only on the sides, down low and up high.  No movements ever felt painful, and they were subtle movements until my 3rd tri.  This time around my placenta is posterior and it's a whole different ball game!  Sometimes painful jabs, the feeling of pressure and tightening when he stretches out or moves a certain way, movements and kicks everywhere, etc.

I think what you're feeling is normal for an anterior placenta.

Same exact thing with me. I hardly felt DD #1 move during first pregnancy and this one is pretty wild! She is moving all the time!

  • I had an anterior placenta and I felt the movements in the lower portion of my abdominal area. The movements picked up strong around 32 weeks up until my delivery at 36 weeks.  I did not have pain associated with the movements.

  • anterior placenta here too.  am 31 weeks and don't feel a whole lot during the day unless I'm sitting down. I tend to feel him more when I am reclining on the couch rather than just upright in an uncomfortable chair.  There are definite movements now, certainly nothing that takes my breath away though.  It's only been the last few weeks that I've been feeling movement regularly.

I also have an anterior placenta. I feel baby move plenty, and they are often strong, but I've never had any kicks that hurt -- some take me by surprise when they are in a new place (got my first swift kick to the bladder last night -- that was fun.)

I'm a FTM, so I can't say it's all because of the placenta placement, but I would think between  placenta placement, baby's position, each baby's activity level, etc. that it probably varies a lot from person to person.

Are you doing kick counts? Because for awhile I thought I wasn't feeling LO move often. Once I did a few kick counts at night I realized that I was just overlooking a lot of movement that happened when I was busy at work, doing housework, even engrossed in a TV show. If I'm not sitting still and concentrating on it, I miss a lot of his activity.

  • I too have anterior placenta. Didn't wit my other two. Definitely different but I can certainly feel baby. Agree with others who said the kicks/jabs do not take my breath away. I'm almost 31 wks. Something else I've noticed with this pregnancy...I have yet to feel hiccups. Both of my previousmpregnancies, I felt them frequently but have not with this one. Not sure if it's the anterior placenta or just this baby being different!

  • I had an anterior placenta and while I did feel movements and could see my belly move- I never felt super sharp or painful kicks...except when the baby was moving into a transverse position but that was mostly pressure!

While this was my first pregnancy and I don't have anything to compare it to- I am pretty positive that I never felt hiccups either.
  • I had an anterior placenta with my first and barely felt her. Everyone would talk about kick counts, but if I did that she would've failed every time! This pregnancy my placenta is posterior and it's amazing how much I feel her! So it's definitely a totally different feeling depending on where your placenta is located.
