34 weeks & 4 days low amniotic fluid & shortening cervix

On Tuesday my doc said my cervix is shortening and my amniotic fluid is low. He has sent me home with orders of Gatorade and water. I go back tomorrow for a recheck. He mentioned last time if no increase in fluid he will put me in hospital with iv fluids. Does it sound like my baby will come early? Im nervous.

    We wouldn't know if your baby will have to come early, ask your doctor. What was your AFI?

    Well my AFI has increased since Tuesday and she is gaining weight. My doctor is pleased.

    How do you know if your AFI has increased or decreased?  Through ultrasound?

    That's how my doctor measures it (ultrasound). I have to go every week for him to check AFl and cervix.

    i have had low fluid with both of my kids...not until 40wks with ds, but starting around 34/35wks with my dd. i read a midwives blog that rec'd coconut water so i bought them and chugged them all day long with her, and her levels leveled out and she stayed in until my water broke at 39wks. so this time around, i have just worked coconut water in once a day to *help* and at my growth u/s today levels were still looking great. they just measure the space around the baby and the uterine walls to determine the volume of fluid. i think that anything under 6 or 8 requires the baby to be taken...i was at 8 with my ds and they let me go the weekend to see if he would come out on his own, but when he didn't and my levels dropped to 6, they started the induction. 

    not sure about the cervix component, though, i was never told anything about that with my kids. but for what it's worth, chug that coconut water!!
