Breastfeeding

Is this poop ok?

I decided to spare you a picture...but what should her poop look like? She drinks exclusively breastmilk and her poop has the "seedy" parts to it, is a dark mustard color, and is really runny/diarrhea-like.

Normal?

  • Yes normal for a newborn

  • Very normal. The seeds are milk proteins that haven't been digested fully. As the gut matures, they start to digest the full milk proteins. Breastfed poop will come in a lot of colors. Is only be alarmed for: black, bloody, mucus, or green frothy.

Yep, those are the diapers you want to see.  The LC I was working with said that the "seeds" show that your LO is getting hind milk.  Yay!
