Question about Newborn

My wife gave birth to our little boy on May 1st.  Her milk came in yesterday (it was a quick process) and now he sleeps for longer periods of time and only wakes up to feed and then goes right back to sleep.  Is this typical since her milk came in?

Re: Question about Newborn

  • I was worried too but our pediatrician told me they sleep up to 20 hours a day. It doesn't matter what you feed them, they sleep a lot.

  • DD2 is 3+ wks and does this on many days (like today). She has a few awake periods, but still sleeps a lot. I'm counting my lucky stars since my first 2 were not sleepers.

  • I wouldn't worry at all.  With time LO will be awake longer.. Growing takes up so much energy. :)

  • We've been waking him every two hours.  He's an eating machine and was actually over his birth weight today (4 days old) when we went to the doctor.

  • Our pediatrician didn't say anything about waking him or not waking him.  I've read after a month we can stop but I'll call the pedi and ask.
