A little tmi boobie stuff

I have this sort of hard greenish white stuff coming from my nipples I've never experienced it before and am wondering if it's normal. Should I clean it out? I know this gross and I'm sorry. I plan on asking my dr at the next visit but wanted to see if you ladies had experience with this. Thanks :)

This was asked on the newbie boards by myself and one other I know of and the ladies there told me it's just colostrum starring to build up and working its way to crusties on your nips. I'd still mention it to your doc because mine isn't green. I do clean mine out with warm water and soap in the shower.

  • Okay. Is there something else I should be doing besides cleaning it out? I had a really tough time producing milk with DD1 so I'm taking this as a good time. It's not straight up GREEN it's mostly white with a greenish hue to it idk how to explain lol

  • my vote is for colostrum, too. it can be greenish/yellowish due to its thickness. all good signs boobies are gearing up for baby. :) i didn't have any prior to having ds, but at about 37wks with dd, i could express some in the shower and was so excited. haha. ahh, mommyhood.

  • I'm glad someone commented on color. Mine is clearish and dries white. I wipe it away with a warm wash cloth or gently scrap it. It doesn't hurt. I would mention the pain and color to your Dr.

Yeah definitely no pain here for me either. But maybe you're already getting full breasts and that is the discomfort. Definitely talk to your doc just to be safe.

  • Are we supposed to clean it off? I think I saw some white spots but I just left it alone lol

I had dried blood on mine the other day- anyone else have this going on?
  • @Katieluc106‌ mine get super duper crusty and it's gross. When they get gunked up like that my nipples hurt pretty bad. I have found that expressing a little of the colostrum then dabbing it with a warm damp washcloth or hopping in the shower immediately works pretty well for cleaning them out and relieving some of the pain. To "express" just cup your boob in your hand with your thumb at the top and your palm on the bottom and gently rub downward/kinda squeeze with your thumb or even use your other hand to massage the colostrum out. This may or may not actually work for you but if it does you'll get a nice drip of colostrum out and it helps push out or moisten your crusties. If nothing is coming out don't keep trying, it will just make you sore. Wait and try again later maybe. I don't always get anything when I do this. I hope this works for you and helps!
  • I asked my doctor about this at my last visit, and she said there was no cause for concern. I'm still BFing by DD, and after two years of no pain, it's suddenly like we're back to week one (which was agony). I've already started putting lanolin on my nipples and that's helped a LOT.
