Registry (again)

I know we've discussed this topic before but I can't find the thread. If you could reply or link me to the original post, I would appreciate it.

I am registered at BRU and I was told by one of the staff that I don't have enough items on my list. I think I'm around 70. She is concerned that I don't have enough variety for people to choose from. So, if you are able to do so, please share your registry or link me to the original post so I can see what all you guys have on your lists.

Lol of course she's gonna say that, she wants sales! There is no magic number, just register for the things you need/want. Honestly I think 70 sounds like a lot! People aren't just going to buy off the registry, either. I had tons of outfits on mine but I took them all off because people will get whatever clothes they think are cute, and you can always exchange them if you don't like them. There are soooo many baby items that are marketed as if babies NEED them, and they just don't. They need somewhere to sleep, something to wear, and a way to travel. Throw in some bottles and diapers for good measure and everything else is just fluff.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. You might think of a few more things you want but I wouldn't bother putting random stuff on just to fill numbers. If people don't like what's on your registry, they'll get you something else or give you a gift card most likely.

I think they are just programmed to say that in order to get you to put the most stuff possible on the registry. In my opinion, it really depends on the size of your shower and the gifting style of your family and friends.

With my first, I had a small shower (about 15 people, mostly family) and I had a small registry. My family tends to do a lot of home made/personalized stuff for showers, so I knew that the registry wouldn't need to be too large. This time, I am not having a shower at all (by my own choice - we were team green last time and all of our newborn/infant stuff will work for her regardless.)

The other thing you can do is watch the registry as the weeks go by and if it starts to get sparse you can always add more. Personally, I always give people the side eye if their registries are really large (either wedding or shower) because it just seems greedy to me.

Thanks for the replies. I will be having 3 showers (one from friends, my family and his family). Each one will have about 20 guests. I think I'll leave it as is it. If I feel the need to update it, I will. I'm sure many of you are right when you say people will buy what they want to buy. We will appreciate anything we get

Personally even though it's a pain, I think it's a good idea to add more. People do like having choices.

On the plus side also, is when the items are left on the registry (which they will be) you get a discount on your own if you still need that item. H and I got away with some good deals last year. HTH!

We went nuts and have a shit ton of items on our registry. IF you add clothes, your number will sky rocket. Though you may have the same pain in the ass problem that we did - they become unavailable for whatever reason at whatever random time they so desire.

We have a registry on amazon. I've really appreciated all the amazon user reviews for various products, plus a lot of people will appreciate the fee shipping if they are amazon prime members. There is also a toolbar you can install that allows you to add items from any website to your registry. I have some nursery artwork from Etsy and a few other random non-amazon items on there. I would definitely recommend an amazon registry to anyone looking for items from a variety of locations.

Look for the link for "Universal Registry", then it walks you through setting it up. It places an Amazon symbol in your browser toolbar so when you are on another site like Etsy, you can click the link to pull it onto your Amazon registry.

I also have mine on Amazon and it's awesome! It kind of ruins the surprise factor (which I'm sure my guests won't know) but I can see who bought what in real time and it gives me their address to send thank you cards to them, which is awesome because I don't have to keep track of it at my shower now.

We only had 25-30 things at BRU, basically just whatever we couldn't find or didn't like at target we searched out there. The woman helping us was also not happy, but we didn't care much.
