C section and lifting restrictions

I am not suppose to lift anything over 10 lbs for like 6 weeks. I will be 2 weeks pp on Tuesday. This morning I carried my 27lb daughter down the stairs and now I am super sore on just my left side. Also had a lot of vaginal bleeding after. Now I am so mad at myself and super paranoid I injured something internally

Ouch! I did something similar at 3 weeks post. i was so mad at myself. I rested, calmed down, and took some ibuprofen. The bleeding slowed down by the next day. Of course if you are worried you should call your doc. I'm sorry you are hurting. I'm now 5 weeks post section and feel much better.

  • I think what you are describing is probably a normal reaction to overdoing it. I have overdone it a few times with carrying my oldest, climbing steps, etc., and it makes me sore and bleeding returns or increases for a little after doing so. I try not to over do it but something's just can't be avoided. I'm pretty sure if I broke something internally, I would know though. I would just try to do as little as possible and only do what's needed and rest as much as you can.

  • I have more restrictions because in addition to my C-section, I also have an umbilical hernia. I can't dance, lift anything heavier than my LO, and I'm not supposed to be active for more than an hour at a time. Even an hour of walking around causes quite a bit of pain for me, and when I get up from sitting or sleeping my abs get angry. Thankfully, my bleeding has stopped completely, but when I get out of bed in the morning I get a huge gush of yellow lochia (which I'm told is normal and no cause for alarm). I've had to withdraw from the show I've been preparing for over the past 5 months, and it opens in 5 days - my understudy is stepping in for me. I'm going back to the surgeon in 5 weeks so he can determine whether the hernia has started shrinking or if I'll need surgery this summer. I'm REALLY hoping it heals on its own - one abdominal surgery this year is enough for me.

  • I often ignored the lifting restrictions bc I have a 27 pound child also. If I over did it I would experience the same symptoms you're describing . Just take it easy for a while and the soreness and bleeding should dissipate.

@WifeofaComposer‌ sorry to hear about your part in the show. Hope the hernia shrinks up!
  • My DD1 is 23 lbs. I didn't lift her at all until my 2 week PP appt and my doctor gave me a 25 lb weight restriction. I carry her all the time and haven't had issues.

Thank you, @Elf2718 - it was really tough for me to back out, but everyone has been very understanding and supportive. I'll still help out back stage for all of my husband's costume changes and makeup.  :)
