Baby Looking into Your Eyes

I know I'm likely being ridiculous. I'll just get that out there first... But. My son is almost 7 weeks old. At this point with my daughter, she was almost always looking me in the eye and smiling when I spoke to her. James does not. In fact, I can count on one hand the number of times he has looked me or anyone else directly in the eye. When we speak to him he'll look at our mouths, or the ceiling, or the wall, but never our eyes. As for smiles, I know it is on the early side and that he still has time to start smiling before it becomes a concern, but I am concerned since he has yet to do it. Anyone experiencing this too?

Yep. Eva only looks at us occasionally. It is usually at the wall, window or ceiling.

  • Mine looks in my eyes as often as she looks elswhere, but she's not really smiling socially yet and she'll be 7 weeks in a few days.  She's smiled once when I was pretty sure it was due to the faces I was making, and she often from gas or when she's dreaming but that's it.

  • Brooklyn is almost 10 weeks and has just now started making definite eye contact. I was worried too because she wasn't really "cooing" like she's "supposed to" at this age, but she's literally started doing it in the last few days. I wouldn't stress about it too much, all babies develop at a different speed.

  • Holland has "judgemental eyes" She will look right at you, make eye contact, and then just stare. She's only a month so it's early for social smiles, but even her Dr mentioned how she looks right at you!

She also gives me looks like "Who the hell are you, and why are you in my space?" ALL. THE. TIME.

  • DS1 took forever to look into our eyes and smile. I think he started doing it more around four months. LO is 13 week (7 adjusted) and is always staring into our eyes and seems to have an endless supply of huge gummy smiles. I don't think there is a need to worry about it, but you can always bring it up at your next appointment
