My movers are MIA-must be in MIA...

I have been waiting on these guys since 11am to move me out of this apartment haha. Apparently, one of their trucks broke down-they said they would be here at 1, now they are coming at 3...I need my stuff out today so I can clean tomorrow, so the next tenant can move in Sunday. Not technically whining and complaining...I guess just venting to whoever is bored LOL. Has the incoming baby caused anyone else to move into a bigger place?? :)

We moved into a larger house last year, thinking that a baby might maybe be in our near future.

I hope your movers showed up!

We were house shopping before the bfp. Once we thought about it we decided to stick it out in the 2 bedroom house DH bought 18 years ago.

We would love something bigger but are going to stay put for another year. His house note is too good to give up!
  • Ugh, we move into out new house at the end of the month. This made me cringe... I never thought to obsess over the movers not showing, lol.

Hope it all worked out ok and you're getting settled in your new place!

We bought a 3 bedroom house when we moved in October and now we're having our third kid so maybe we should've gone bigger! Oh well. Hope your day improves, OP!

  • Thanks everyone!! Well hahah what a nightmare it turned into. After telling me they were coming at 3, they showed up at 4. I had the pleasure of dealing with these lovely guys until 9. Why it room them 5 hours to move me out of my 1BR apartment where all the boxes were already packed and in one main spot I am not sure. They are blaming my sofa haha. Ironically it took them an hour to unload everything off of the truck into our new apartment haha. Anyway we are moved in and I think my goal of guest room with nursery is going to have to change haha. The bed itself is taking up most of the guest room-there's not even room for the crib at this point. Time to go back to the drawing board :) I hope everyone is having a great Sunday and I'm sorry I took a lil bit of time to respond back !

  • @MrsCunningham22‌ yah they basically sucked me dry and charged me for the 5 hours. I am contemplating calling the owner up and complaining. I kind of felt bad complaining to the actual guys moving me because it was Friday night, they looked beat, and I just didn't have the heart to complain after all of that. That is a great idea about the futon/day bed I am totally going to look into it. My sofa is a pullout and it fits two people comfortably-at times three of us have been on it. I might just do away with the guest room. How long are babies supposed to sleep in the room with you? I am a FTM and I keep seeing mixed reviews.

We used movers in late September when we sold our condo. We moved two blocks with what we were told by the movers was "not a lot of stuff". Our quote? $700. Our actual bill? $1600. I was livid. One of the movers moved slower than my grandmother and he was young. Like early 20's. It got to the point that I was unloading stuff to speed up the process. Never again will we pay movers.

  • @Eastie156‌ OMG I would have FLIPPED. @MrsCunningham22‌ I lived in a second floor apartment in an old historic house they converted into apartments. They blame the sofa. Every time I move, I say I'm not moving again LOL. Baby had other plans hahaha.

  • I hope they showed up.  We moved into a house in the burbs from living in an apt in the city last summer in anticipation of starting a family.  Hope all goes well, moving was horrible for us (during a heat wave) and I never want to do it again.

I think our movers took about three hours to load and unload the contents of our three-bedroom house. We did move many of our more delicate items on our own, but they moved all the furniture and lots and lots of heavy book boxes in that time. I think you should definitely complain.

We've also been trying to figure out what to do regarding turning the guest room into a nursery. Our third bedroom is my husband's office (he works from home) so we can't have both a guest room and nursery. Unfortunately we have a nice full size tempurpedic mattress that takes up almost all of the entire guest room. I hate to have to get rid of that.

  • I would so complain! We moved from our rental house to our current house and we have a ton of stuff! (Dh keeps everything!) we had our bedroom, both kids' bedrooms and two complete living room sets plus all our kitchen stuff and it took them less than 4 hours and they were moving slow. When we moved out of our first apt Dh had this old sofa that had a pull out bed. It weighed about 3 tons and it only took the movers an hour to move everything. On the topic of the baby sleeping with you. I typically keep my lo's in my room in a pack n play/bassinet until I feel ready to move them to their room.
