March 2014 Moms

Boo. Small pity party inside.

Has Allison come on time or early, I would have been at Carnegie Hall right now, doing final prep with my group before their portion of our concert. As she came late and my recovery has been tough, I'm sitting in the nursery with a fussy baby who has been having trouble sleeping. My FB news feed is blowing up with all the updates and excitement and it makes me a little sad. I really wanted to be there but I would have had to have made at least two rehearsals this week 45 minutes away, plus be at Carnegie in full hair, dress, and makeup by 8:30 am. Yes, there is next year, but I had an amazing group of kids this year and I love the repertoire I had chosen for them.

/end pity party

RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.
You made my wedding day complete.

  • I'm sorry to hear that! Is anyone able to at least videotape it for you? I'm sure they miss you and wish you were there, too! I was in band and choir in HS and if we had a major concert like that without our teacher, I would've been upset. I'm guessing you prepped them almost until the end for a concert at Carnegie hall, though, and that's a big deal!

  • So sorry you can't be there. Hugs
  • @nkrone08 - it's with an organization I work with outside of school.  We do three concerts a year (the last one before this was 8 days before my due date, ha!), and there's always one major venue like Avery Fisher Hall or the mainstage at Carnegie.  I got to do Carnegie last year, and we're back there again next year, but this group of kids was something really really special.  Two of my favorite pieces of all time are on this program, and a piece I've been wanting to do for 3 years is also on there.

And it's Carnegie - no videotaping/photography allowed.  They're really strict.  In the past we've been allowed to make professional recordings, this year they're not permitting us - well, they would, but it would have cost our group $21k...

  • That's awful @saisongbird‌ $21k is a ton of money for a recording. I'm so sorry you're missing out. You've also piqued my interest! What pieces are they doing??
  • It's a 7th an 8th grade SSA (sometimes SA, sometimes SSAA) choir that does music up to the high school and collegiate level.  They're doing The Spark of Creation from Children of Eden, an Inuit piece called Perhaps They Are Not Stars, It Sings in Me, and Ah! Si Mon Moine Voulait Danser.
