My lo is seriously a spit up queen. I don't know what to do anymore it's ridiculous. We go through at least 5 outfits a day and all of our burp rags everyday. She wakes up crying everytime I put her down bc she is soaked in spit up. I already hold her for 20 min after a feed and have her bassinet at an incline. I never lay her flat on her back it is always on an incline (rock and play, bouncy seat) I just don't know what to do other than hold her all day or wear her. It makes it hard to get things done and I feel bad for her especially at night. Not to mention I feel like she is hungry much quicker bc of this. Is there anything else I can do? At what point do I look at my diet to see if that's causing it? She is EBF btw
@ksulli I tried that today for the first time but she still spit up 20 min later in the rock and play.
@pandamom416 it may be because she also coughs and chokes once a feeding which I'm also concerned about. When I pump though I only get about 3 oz so that doesn't seem like too much.
Yeah I will keep trying the more burps. She is gaining weight like a champ. She was 7 lbs 5 oz and at 3 wks was 8 lbs 10 oz. The dr was very happy with that number. We do have another appt this wk though bc she had trush so I'm interested to see if she is still gaining since the spitting up seems like its gotten worse
That was us a week ago. The thing that helped us immensely was holding her in a seated position when she breastfeeds and stopping more often for burps. When they sit up while they eat they don't over eat as easily and gravity is helping. If I do that and hold her up for awhile after a feeding, she doesn't spit up at all. If I don't do that, there is projectile spit up everywhere.
Is it possible she has something like a milk protein intolerance? Usually that would be accompanied by a lot of fussing and probably diaper rash when you eat dairy. Soy is another common culprit.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
Do her poops look normal? Based on convos w/my pedi, if her poops are at all mucusy, green, or have streaks of blood it could be a dairy intolerance. If not, I agree with other suggestions (burping, positions, etc)
Her poop looks normal. She has had a diaper rash but dr said that was thrush and it cleared up very quickly with nystatin. I have just started feeding her sitting up which is seeming to help. Thank you ladies. I'm hoping this gets better with some easy changes. If not I will ask about the dairy thing
This is my LO. It is so sad seeing her spit up all the time. I think it is either reflux or a milk protein allergy. I tried giving her special formula (similac alimentum) and it has helped so much. She actually keeps it down and now sleeps 5 hour stretches. I didn't want to switch to formula so early but I think it is best for her. It is worth a try!
