That's interesting. I've not been able to find a legitimate source to indicate Brielle is used in French-speaking countries as a short form for Gabrielle. Behind the name lists it as a modern, and largely American creation, despite some commenters insisting it's Cajun or French (As a Quebecoise and Acadien, I am doubtful of this connection). It is also municipality in the Netherlands and a borough in New Jersey.
ETA: Supporting my own experience, the Canadian province where Brielle enjoys the highest popularity (top 20) is non-francophone Saskatchewan. Brielle was only given to 6 baby girls in Quebec in 2013. It was given to zero babies in 2008.
Not my personal pick but it doesn't seem as extremely made up as some names I hear around. There are 2 other Brielles in DD's group of friends. Don't do Sophie. Even though I love it compared to Brielle, it is just so overused these days.
I don't know anything about the origins of V Brielle, but I trust the other posters who claim it isn't legitimate. They're very knowledgeable in name etymology.
As far as made up names go, it's far from the worst. I do think it's pretty. Perhaps using Gabrielle as the full name with Brielle as the nn would be an option.

As a side note, I know someone who named her little girl Briella and it just sounds like an evil stepsister to me!
