3 month old not taking a bottle

DD2 is three months old. I was off work and she was out of DC for the last two weeks. She hardly ever takes a bottle from me (only wants to be BFed) but was ok about taking them from DH until about a month ago. She ate well at DC until now. Today, her first day back at DC in two weeks, she refused a bottle the entire day :-( Over my time off, DH tried to give her a bottle or two most days, but she rarely took it. Hence, I saw this coming. I thought she may just readjust once she was back at DC where she always has bottles. Has anyone had luck restarting LO on the bottle? I'm trying a few different nipples. I gave her a Playtex narrow nipple w medium flow tonight. She hardly drank any BM but she played with the nipple and smiled. TIA

My 2.5 year old refused a bottle when we started him at daycare at 4 months old.  We did 2-3 half days to start where he didn't eat anything.  Then on the 2nd or 3rd full day there, he finally decided that a bottle was better than holding out for mom.  We tried all sorts of different bottles and that made no difference at all.  What ultimately worked, in addition to time, was me sending in a t-shirt that I had slept in.  The teacher would put it over her shoulder when she fed K so he would smell me.  We did that for a month or so until he didn't need it anymore.  Good luck; it's hard, I know!

Thank you. I'll send the tank top I slept in last night to day care today.

I had this issue and it stressed me out like crazy. Does your milk let down fast? If so, I'd suggest a 'fast flow' nipple geared towards older babies so it comes fast just like they're used to. I've also had luck with putting DS in not the most traditional holds - he takes it really well while sitting in a car seat strangely enough. Finally, we put a nipple guard over the bottle nipple. I'm not sure how we came up with this, but nipple guards are much softer (DS just kept on chewing on the bottle nipple, not sucking). So I think we realized that nipple guards make the bottle nipple softer so he sucked with a nipple guard as opposed to chewed. Best of luck, your LO will get it!

Give it time. She could just be adjusting to being back at DC. 3 months is a good age to start with medium flow nipples but I would try and hold off in case she gets used to the faster flow and starts refusing the boob. If all else fails, I have heard that the latex brown nipples with Playtex are the magic nipples for picky babies.

We had issues with bottle refusal recently with my son and I surveyed a lot of moms who had the same issue and many if them had the same advice - the brown latex nipple for Playtex drop-in nurser bottles. We spent a small fortune on other bottles and nipples and it's the only one that worked for us. https://www.amazon.com/Playtex-Drop-Ins-NaturaLatch-Latex-Nipple/dp/B0009XAHZQ

Thanks everyone! DD did get better as the week progressed. We got her faster flowing nipples and have some latex nipples ready for tomorrow. I also sent T-shirts I'd recently worn to DC a few times last week. She liked having them next to her while she slept.
