I am 39 and 19 weeks along with my 2nd(my first dd will be 7 at the end of May)... I never had any complications with her pg until after I was in labor and delivered her... My bp didn't want to come down after I had her for some reason.
This time around they say I have gestational diabetes because I had to be put on metformin before I got pg for a high fasting insulin number. So they automatically have me testing my blood 4 times a day, which is fine I'm actually happy knowing these numbers and everything has been GREAT with those numbers. I have been told later on in the pg my hormones could cause those numbers to get crazy and I may have to be put on insulin.
So at this point I have THAT going against me PLUS my age... Every time I go to the dr's I honestly feel like they are just slapping so many more tests at me JUST because of my age. It's like they don't look at my history at all. It gets very frustrating for me.
Also, this last dr's appt (I have a group of Dr's I see and they want you to see each Dr at least once through out this process) and I had never met this dr before and I didn't hear good things about her. I had never had any issues with my bp through out my pg with my first dd and it's been really good so far during this pg. I even take it at home(again to just be informed how things are going with me)... I took it that morning before my appt and it was 130/71. That afternoon at the dr's it was 150/96 and the nurse that took it goes "oh that's high!" So they told me to lay on my left side until the dr came in, long story short, the dr actually came in and in her words (after this incident happened) she "pissed me off on purpose to see if my bp would spike" And in fact it did it went up to 170/100. I was beyond livid with how she treated me and I'm the type of person, once I'm mad, it takes me a bit to calm down. She did this in front of my husband and 6 yr old dd. Then she starts going into how I'll be seeing them A LOT and having all kinds of testing done, it was a nightmare of an appt because she had me scared out of my mind. We get to the car and my dd starts to cry and says "mommy is there something wrong with the baby" her scaring my dd is NOT ok.
I've taken my bp every day(mutliple times a day) when I'm at home since that appt and I have had NO bad readings. I go to see a different dr (and will refuse to see her again from here until the end of my pg) next week and I will be letting him know what she did to me and ask him what I need to do to report the incident.
Sorry to ramble on, this was just such a bad experience for me... it's bad that we worry enough as it is then for her to be all gloom & doom after ONE high bp reading was very frustrating.
Thank you for listening.
Re: Has anyone else's Dr acted like your uterus is going to turn to dust because you're over 35?
Sorry you are experiencing that, I would possibly look into another care giver if after you speak with dr/practice manager things don't change. Pissing a patient off on purpose is NOT at all common practice..
I did have multiple apts based on age alone, multiple ultrasounds/ NST's my blood pressure was fine and no gestational diabetes so yes please do expect more apts than a younger than 35 pregnant patient. I hope things go well with your pregnancy and one high bp is to be watched not a huge concern...
ps I'm 41 delivered in March a very healthy boy, my 5th
