Stupid, judgy, sales people

Today I went into Old Navy to try on some maternity pants.  I found a pair I liked in my size for 50% off!  Score!  But when I tried them on it became super obvious to me the size was mis-marked.  Like, I was wearing size 12, Old Navy pants... THESE were "size 12", Old Navy pants; however, I could not pull those suckers up past my knees!  Hell, I could tell with one leg in they weren't going on!

I mentioned something to the sales lady about them being mismarked, and she got this "Poor you" look on her face and said that it could be the cut or that I "may have just moved past that point in my pregnancy"

I wanted to deck her.  I just rolled my eyes and said that I knew what pregnancy did to my body (as I pointed at my double stroller) and I knew what size I was and that these weren't just, tight but they flat wouldn't go on at all and were very obviously mismarked.  She looked at me like this

I walked away.... and bought a milk shake on the way home for good measure. Fucking, judgmental bitch.  Then I went to motherhood where I bought a size 12 maternity pant NO PROBLEM.

  • I *hate* sales people at old navy. It's like they've never heard of customer service before! Not to mention, I don't think I've ever seen an ON employee over 21, and not one has ever mentioned having kids... Don't get me wrong, I love their clothes, especially for the kids, I just hate the sales reps I've encountered across 7 States.

  • Ugh. Annoying! I was just complaining about Old Navy the other day. Not only is their maternity section basically non existent but I've had the same issues as well. I normally wear a size 8 or 10 depending on the cut and brand and I feel like Old Navy's clothes run super small. I don't typically shop there but didn't want to spend an arm and leg on maternity clothes so I figured I'd check it out. No go! Also, around here, the only employees I ever see are at the register. There is never anyone around to ask for help!

I bought 3 pairs of the same maternity skinny jeans (size 12) on 2 different shopping trips from old navy. I only tried on one pair. Each pair is like wearing a completely different brand!
  • I've always had a problem with old navy clothes. I've ordered pants in the same size and they both fit different. One pair even had a significantly shorter leg. Screw you Old Navy!!!
  • I'm talking pre-pregnancy but Old Navy is cut small. I normally wear xs/sm. I had to buy a medium!!!!

  • I have also had some sizing problems with Gap! Pre-pregnancy I shopped for all manner of gap pants and was pretty consistently an 8 (and on a rare occasion a 4 which never made sense to me because my size didn't change). But ANYWAY there was one particularly cut of jeans that worked so well that I would order them online whenever they were having a mega sale. One time I go into the store, try on my 8 to see if I liked the color, and could barely get these damn jeans on! I ask an honest question to the sales person if anything has happened with their sizing or the cut recently and I get that same poor you look. I had walked into the store that day wearing my 8's of that same damn jean. In a nutshell, rude sales people suck and inconsistent sizing sucks.

Old Navy blows.  The clothes are junk and fall apart.  Motherhood is the way to go anyways, so screw that lady.

  • Yeah, I've learned my lesson.  It's funny because usually I have great success with Old Navy clothes, but this was a turn off!

I just hate to pay Motherhood prices, cause well, I'm a great big cheapskate.  You get what you pay for, I guess lol

  • Old Navy is it's own beast when it comes to sizing. I remember trying to buy their cute colored skinny pants last year and not fitting into anything even remotely close to my normal size. It's them, not you! As for the saleslady, F her!

I'm surprised to hear you say that. I've always thought that Old Navy was cut bigger because I've always had to go a size down in their clothes compared to other stores.

  • Same here...I ordered some maternity shorts online and I could barely get them on...and this was earlier in my pregnancy.  I returned them, good thing it was free shipping for returns.  I bought the same size at Motherhood and they fit perfect.

Back in the day I remember Old Navy running big (like 10 years ago).  Haven't really shopped there since.

  • I used to work at Old Navy, and that happens with their clothes all the time. You can literally go to the denim wall and pull two pairs of pants in the same size, and they will clearly be a different length, different width, etc. I seem to remember it being especially bad with kids' sizes.

This is the experience I've always had with old navy. Each piece seems to have a completely different fit.

Even IF you weren't wearing your glasses/contacts that day and the tag actually said it was a size 2, that's terrible customer service!

    The customer is always right!

Not really, but in sales, you're supposed to make the customer feel like they're always right.  You're supposed to keep them happy.
