Help after twins arrive (I also have a toddler)

So my mom has been around to help with my toddler since birth, I work part time (not sure what the plans will be after I have the twins). She recently found a full time job & I am freaking out because I was relying on her to be there not only when I deliver but when I'm fat & uncomfortable. My husband insists his mother come stay with us when I deliver & this is a point of contention. She is 80, & was less than helpful when my daughter was born. I need someone to do the laundry, dishes & watch them so I can get a nap!

Should I get a nanny at first? How do you survive in the beginning?

  • You are totally right in that you need all the help you can get... and good help. What if you gave MIL a schedule and really specific tasks that you know she can do? Could your mother drop by after work daily? That would be better than nothing! If you can afford a mothers helper, by all means, please do it! It will be the best money you ever spent :)

  • If it's in you budget to get a nanny or at the very least a housekeeper, then do so! It would have been so helpful to have another set of hands around the house, especially with another little one.

  • I hired a post-partum doula for 2-3 days a week for a month or two after the twins were born. She was great!

Also if you have any friends who are part-time/SAHMs get them on board too for things like folding laundry.
