Aspartame and chewing gum?

I am 24 weeks pregnant :-) I have been chewin gum, at work, for most of my pregnancy and never gave much thought to it or thought about what the aspartame could do to baby.
Normally I chew 2-3 pieces per day but as embarrassing as this is, there have been days I've chewed an entire pack!
I don't drink or eat diet stuff but have always chewed sugar free gum as a stress relief and habit.
I guess I am looking for those that have a similar habit or did with w previous pregnancy & a healthy baby:)

Are you eating the gum? I mean, if you eat a pack a day and gum stays in your system for 7 years, your baby won't have room to grow with all the gum in there.

Sarcasm font. I just figured OP probably was gullible enough to believe it.

I ate healthy and used the occasional sweetener and I ended up with a baby with multiple congenital heart defects (2nd pregnancy) and another baby in perfect health (First pregnancy).

Not sure what answer you are looking for but from what I have learned is that anything can happen during any pregnancy regardless of what precautions you take.

Be reasonable with your consumption. Speak to your doctor, look up recommended sweetener consumption during pregnancy. I limited myself to 3 servings per day if I had that.

Like the poster above I don't eat sweeteners.  However whenever I have a question like this and I can't ask my OBGYN I like to look up the answers on PubMed.gov which is an online library of medical studies.  The link to one of the studies on aspartame in pregnant women is here https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2862125 and you will be pleased to know that even in high doses they found no ill-effects.
I am not sure why you got some of the above responses as it doesn't sound like a stupid question to me and evidently several scientists thought there was good enough reason to run a study on it.   Perhaps next time they are concerned about the link between certain chemicals and fetal development they could save time and money on medical trials by posting on the bump and letting mana84 decide?  ;)

Great reply slap. If someone has a legitimate concern and are looking for feedback from other moms/pregnant women isn't that the whole point of these forums? No need to be rue to the poster. I'm sure she knows to ask her doctor but sometimes it's nice to hear other women's opinions too.

I understand your concern about aspartame. I stopped drinking diet sodas during pregnancy because of it. It is a chemical that I know is bad for me and I would like to kick my habit even when not pregnant. I don't want my baby exposed to it except in very limited quantities. That said, I think there is a lot less in gum than in soda, so I am sure you are fine. Try to stick to a few pieces a day if you are concerned.
