Which would you suggest?

I'm trying to decide what to use for this LO to sleep in... I've heard that the rocker can be a safety hazard because of the way it's inclined. But i notice that the daydreamer is also inclined a little... which would yall suggest? Or should we just look into a bassinet?

Re: Which would you suggest?

  • I'm a FTM, but every mom that I know of swears by the rock n play, so I got one for our baby. Honestly, almost any type of sleeper can be a hazard, so I wouldn't work yourself up too much over that.

  • FTM so take it for what it's worth, but it seems like you may be able to use the rocker for more purposes than the daydreamer thing.

  • With used the Nap Nanny with DS, similar to the napper above. He slept great in it and It was light enough to move around the house and travel with. The downside is that it takes up a lot of space, especially traveling.

The Nap nanny was recalled, I forget why exactly. I think people were simply using them unsafely (like, putting it in a crib and the baby got wedged between the napper and side of the crib). We returned it and got our money back since we weren't using it anymore anyway.

This time we got the rock n play. Easy travel was the real factor in our decision. The rock n play folds flat and takes up much less space in the car.

  • Rock N Play - I think the Nap Nanny was recently recalled? I thought I heard that but sometimes I lie.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

I used a combo of the rock n play, a swing next to our bed and then finally the pack n play. I really liked the rock n play because it kept her from rolling, was easy to transport to other rooms without waking her and cleans very easily. She had some reflux and hated laying flat so the incline was awesome. I used a summers eve swaddle and buckled her into the rock n play without any other blankets. There is a hole in the swaddles for buckles. Hope this helps.

  • I personally got a bassinet that came with a removable rocker, but the daydreamer looks like a great choice as well.  I would suggest deciding where the baby will be sleeping in it the most.

  • Okay thanks yall. And btw that's not the nanny nap thing. It's the daydreamer infant seat which is the newer version of the nn with all the problems fixed that caused the nn to be recalled.

We like having our baby in a flat lying basinette - it's the closest thing to the crib that she will eventually sleep in, so makes the transition easiest. We like the Arm's Reach Cosleeper, and this time we are trying their mini version for our new daughter.

  • The Rock n Play is my favorite piece of baby gear ever! This is baby #4 for us and I swear by it. Most newborns love to be inclined and it is really cozy and easily folds up to take places. The sides are very light, breathable material (kind of perforated canvas) so I don't worry about the baby getting his head turned at a weird angle and not being able to breathe. That other thing you showed a picture of seems more cushioned and not as breathable.

@cMichelle0423‌ - just curious: why did you decide to go this route instead of the traditional bassinet, pack and play or crib route? Is it a space issue? Do you want the baby to sleep in your room?

  • @Read247 yes we plan on having baby sleep in our room since I'm also planning on breastfeeding. We also have a 1 year old who sleeps in our bed. I know logically it would make better sense to just transition DS1 into his own bed and then we could have DS2 sleep in our bed. But we're also moving the last week of the month and a lot is changing so I don't want him to feel even more overwhelmed with the new house AND new baby. As much as I would be totally okay with just having both the boys in our bed, we don't have to room for everyone.

Ok, I get where you're coming from. If you have (or are getting) a pack and play I would just go with that if you have the room. It already has a bassinet in it and then it's one less thing you have to buy and/or store. I used mine constantly!

The bassinet was great next to the bed because it was easy to get him in and out of (without getting out of bed) and we just snap the changing pad back in for diaper changes. I am hesitant to let him sleep overnight in something that moves because it freaks me out and I think it would make the transition to a crib or bed harder.

  • @Read247 yahh I'm probably just going to end up using a pnp. We have one that we used with DS1 so we don't have to buy another one. I also have one of those rock n plays too but am hesitant on using it for bed time since it isn't a flat surface.
  • I got the FP sleeper for my niece last year on a recommendation by a friend, and my sister (and my mother who takes care of her 2x/week) swear it's been the best thing they have for her. I plan on borrowing it for my LO.

I just got the snuga monkey rock n play, I'm really excited to try it! All of my friends who have kids have recommended it!
  • Rock n play- I used it for both my 1st and 2nd babies and I'll use it for my 3rd arriving in June. Both transitions around 3-4 months old to the crib lying flat was absolutely seamless - no issues! :-)
  • The RnP saved my life when DD was a baby. She wouldn't sleep anywhere else. I agree with PPs though. Try everything else before the RnP. This little one is going to start out in the PnP first.

@cmichelle0423 we are in the same boat. Our two older kids  always go to bed in their rooms, but sometimes they come in our bed in the middle of the night, so no bed sharing with this little guy. I was looking at the rnp but am concerned one of the kids will bump it in their sleep. We decided to get a mattress for our pack n play. They are between $20-$30 on amazon and we can use it for a long time. I didn't like the thought of him sleeping on the hard pad that comes with it, so this solves our problems. Just throwing it out there as another option :).
I never knew they made these. I was planning on putting blankets down underneath the sheet to help with cushioning, but this is so much better.  Thanks for sharing.

  • I had a second generation Nap Nanny that supposedly was fixed and my son, despite being strapped in, totally fell out to the side. Took ten years off my life.

We have a rock 'n' play and that thing was a lifesaver because it was lightweight and our pedi said he found it very helpful for treating reflux, which it was. We live and swear by it.

Another vote for the RNP.  DD wouldn't nap anywhere else for the first few months.  It saved my sanity.

We LOVE the RNP. I love the portability of it, so I would just pick it up and move it from room to room. We didn't have any issues with the transition to the crib either, although admittedly, DD was a great sleeper from the start.
