Shower on Saturday & nothing marked as purchased on registry

Hi ladies...I'm wondering your opinions on this. I checked my registry today, well cause I'm noisy, and nothing has been marked as purchased (we used myregistry.com). I am not really familiar with how registries work as we didn't have one for our wedding. In your opinion does this mean...

All of the above and some registries can take 24 hours to update.

  • Stop looking at it. I agree with PP about it not being updated.

AND some people will go to Amazon and buy it cheaper.

AND seriously, be gracious. People can but you whatever they want. It is their money. If you don't like it, be gracious, and return it if you can.

Yep, all of the above. I had two things marked on mine as purchased and that was it, but we received a lot of what we needed. Also, I felt like people got us stuff I didn't know we needed and they are going to be super useful.

  • All of this.  With a week left, quite likely some people haven't shopped yet.  Some people will forget to mark the registry.  Some people will ignore it.

  • Not sure why, but my girlfriend used myregistry.com for her shower and did not get many things off of her registries.

That being said, people do like to wait until the week of to buy gifts. I see nothing wrong with checking- especially because some things are discontinued or not available at store any more which you can only know if you check and then you can update as necessary.

Thanks everyone...we will definitely be happy & beyond appreciative of any gift we get!! I am just curious what others experiences were is all :) I also checked it today to make sure that prices were still accurate as there have been a lot of sales lately and Because of this I had to make some price changes...normally I wouldn't look because I love the surprise when it comes to gifts!

  • First go round, for both wedding and C, I checked my registries religiously almost every day, so I'm not going to say not to check it :).  For me, the surprise was in who bought what, as I had already put the shit on the list, it wasn't too much of a surprise anyway what I wanted, just whether or not it was purchased.

That said, for the baby registry (Target), I got a lot of stuff that hadn't been marked off online and a lot of duplicates.  Some of it is because if the guests purchase in store but forget to get the registry scanned at check out, it won't mark off.  I wouldn't worry overly much!  People will get what they want to get you, but there is a chance the registry is off.

I am torn between 2 votes, either people haven't started shopping yet or they're going the gift card route. Stop peeking!!!

  • I felt the same before my shower too but all the sudden on the day before and morning of my shower I had a lot of purchased stuff. Don't worry!
  • Everyone I know waits until the day before (if it's in the morning) or day of (if it's in the afternoon).

I know in my instance I wanted to make sure that people knew I had a registry since the shower was put together 2 weeks before and I registered a week before. Even if people don't get you stuff from the registry, you might still like it or be able to return it for something you do. Regardless, as PPs said, people are buying you stuff so that in-and-of-itself is awesome.

Plus Target registries are always garbage. Last shower I bought gifts for, they told me they had just changed the system to where the barcode no longer scans the whole registry. Instead, they had to go from item #1 and count down to type in "item #_" for whatever I had bought. Which super sucked because the girl had put over 50 things on her registry and we had to count everything out for it to be marked off. Ri.dic.ulous.

  • I only had a few things marked as purchases on my registry but when I opened gifts there was a lot that were from my registry that were not marked. I also got a ton of stuff that wasn't on my registry.

At a week out for my first shower, people started buying last minute. For my second shower (yesterday) almost nobody bought off of the registry--lots of knit blankies, clothing and a few new moms who picked out things they knew I'd need (now that they've got some experience 'under their belt'). So you never know... There were also many gift cards at both showers so we'll just buy what we really need and want with those!
  • For us everyone but 2 people bought stuff from our amazon registry. About 4 days before the shower nothing else got bought. Those 2 people were the only last minute shoppers, who then went to our local registry and did by from it. So, it all depends.

We found that almost everyone we knew loves and uses amazon, and because they have better prices, shopped for us in advance. I will say people didn't start really buying things until 2/3 weeks before the shower. We got no gift cards or cash for baby. FYI: for our wedding, not one person bought from Myregistry.com but our Macy's one was wiped out.

I think you should expect lots of last minute shoppers or gifts that weren't on the registry.

Just be thankful that people are spending their hard earned money to buy a present for your baby, and spend a Saturday afternoon celebrating your kid. This isn't directed at you, but I personally loathe baby showers bc I think they're boring and petty, so if you get people to come, thumbs up! I usually do my shower shopping the night before or the day of, so they may be in that boat.

Eta: used the wrong they're :(

  • With two of my showers (and I'm assuming it'll be the same for my 3rd) I got mostly clothes, headbands, blankets and toys/books. We haven't gotten much off our registry, I think it's because it's more fun to shop for cute things rather than practical things. I'm expecting to buy 90% of baby needs but this baby won't need new clothes for a year! ;)

Most people prefer to buy the cute stuff for baby showers like clothes and blankets because it's funner to shop for and funner to watch get opened so everyone can ooh and aww over it.

I figured this, so we hadn't bought any clothes or blankets, nor did we register for any of it. My shower was yesterday and I was right, not much stuff from our registry, but lots of cute clothes. It still works out because we obviously needed clothes and got so many cute outfits. We also got a few gift cards and now have our completion coupons so we should be good to go to purchase the rest of our registry items.
  • My friend used myregistry.com, and I personally thought it was a pain in the butt for the gift-giver. I don't think my mother would even be able to figure out the (seemingly simple) steps involved. My bet is that a lot of people were either confused and didn't realize it's their job to go back and actually mark things as purchased after buying something, or else simply were too lazy to take the steps involved in using that website.

I used myregisty.com and am team green and out of 120 gift items (a lot were very little under $5 items) we got 11. I found myregistry.com a lot of people had issues marking things off and also people just don't like to shop online. To top it off I am team green so they didn't buy me many clothes so we ended up with a lot of gift cards to a lot of different places but we still got everything we need and the rest we can fund with the gift cards :)

  • My shower was the same way... Only about 5 things were bought from the registries. Everyone else bought something else or gave me gift cards. They aren't obligated to get anything from the registry. I was just happy that they came to celebrate. The shower went great anyway!
  • I never thought to look at my registry when I had my baby shower for DS1. And it turned out my mom (who hosted my baby shower) told guests not to bother marking their gifts as "purchased" because she didn't want me to peek at it. I also got a ton of gifts that weren't even on my registry. Like pps said, people are going to buy you whatever they want. If you really end up not wanting/needing/liking something you get, you can always exchange it.....
