Just got off the phone with the nurse from my doctor's office. I go for my day three appointment tomorrow for a blood test and ultrasound. I know the blood test is testing for certain hormones (FH, LH, and estradiol) but what is the ultrasound for? Also isn't this kind of messy? Is it not that kind of ultrasound?
The nurse also mentioned that I'll get my Clomid prescription tomorrow as well which I'm excited and nervous about. I know it can suck with the side effects and all but if it works it would be so worth it.
I guess any step forward is better than the waiting.

I just did my first one last week, and it was not bad at all. They let me use the restroom right before going into the room. I had to undress below the waist, but there was a cushiony paper liner under my bum on the examination table. I never saw the ultrasound wand when it was done with, but it was clear the nurse was used to it.
In addition to counting antral follicles, the ultrasound also checks to see if there are any big cysts that need to resolve before starting meds, and in my case, it looks like it also found a polycystic ovary, although the nurse couldn't say anything (boohoo). They also see the uterine lining, which at this stage of the cycle (according to my nurse) should be a very thin white line along the middle of the uterus. It could also show hints of any uterine problems like fibroids. In my case at least, I have to wait for a consult with the RE to discuss results of ultrasound, blood work, and HSG.
A warning of something I didn't expect - part of the bloodwork was a quantitative HCG test (I guess to be doubly sure before HSG?). I got a call that afternoon, thinking it was about scheduling, and was shocked to hear, We have the results of your HCG test, and they are negative. Jeesh, I knew that, I had my period, but it felt kind of icky to be surprised by that (quite possibly first of many) BFN calls.
