Eczema Mommies

What kind of sunscreen do you use? L has been breaking out every time we go out in the sun, even with sunscreen on. Just looking for some options about a natural sunscreen that might work.

  • Used to use Aveeno baby. Now Neutrogena beach defense.
  • Thanks all! His pedi recommended Aveeno and Neutrogena. I got both and will try that out. I also got him a rash guard and new trunks and am now on the hunt for a good sun hat. My poor blonde haired, blue eyed, pale skinned kid...

JMC11511  my pale blond hair and blue eye girls have these hats and it really shades their face and back of neck. https://www.diapers.com/p/i-play-flap-sun-hat-baby-936481

We just use the Banana Boat Kids, even when DD was younger, and it didn't bother her. Then again, we're amongst the lucky ones where hers tends to get better in the summer. I am also the sun hat police. I get the nice big brimmed hats. My husband and his parents constantly complain they "can't see her face, poor thing"... and whenever the in-laws take her, I catch them flipping up the brim of the hat. It drives me crazy! First off, that kind of defeats the whole purpose. Second, they don't reapply sunscreen often enough for this to not be an issue. Lastly, that does actually ruin the hats after a while. Gee thanks. When DD was younger, she would only keep the hats on if there was a strap. Now, she will happily keep them on without the straps, but she's wiggly enough that I kind of want to sew them on her new hat because wiggles + wind = lots of chasing hats down.

If it's a bad time for her, Vaseline all the way, many times a day (the original, NOT the baby one. They add scent to the baby one which can make the eczema worse). If she's doing okay but not great, we do Vaseline once or twice a day and Cetaphil the other times. When she's all cleared up and just a little dry, we'll use just the Cetaphil. We used some Eucerin and Aqua for when she was little, before we felt less squeamish about the Vaseline. She's never minded it.
