Working Moms

Interviewing for new job

Good morning! This is my first time posting here, I'm hoping there are some moms who have been in this position before. I was just offered an interview with a great company that will be a much better fit for our family. I am currently on maternity leave, my son is six weeks old, do I tell the interviewer this?

Re: Interviewing for new job

  • After you have accepted a job offer, you may want to email HR about pumping, so they would eventually know you have a baby, but definitely don't say anything before you have a written offer.

    Nope

ETA: I interviewed for this job while i was on my last maternity leave.  I did not mention the baby.  The interview went long and I felt like my boobs were going to burst, but I did not mention it.  After I got the job, I e-mail HR to ask about the pumping room.  My boss did not know until my first day.  I am an employee like any other and there's no reason to discuss my babies in an interview. :)
    My TTC History:
    2009: missed miscarriage #1 at 9 weeks (trisomy 16)
    2010: Infertility
2011: Diagnosis and treatment (low sperm count, anastrozole for DH, clomid for me + IUI)
    2012: Baby #1
    2014: Baby #2
October 2015: missed miscarriage #2 at 11 weeks (trisomy 22)
    March 2016 BFP#5, due November 2016.

    My Charts since 2009

  • I made the mistake of talking about my babies in an interview which otherwise went very well (from my perspective) but I didn't get the offer. In retrospect I made the classic first time mom mistake. My suggestion as others, don't say anything.

I agree with others, there is no need to mention that you have a baby.

However, I interviewed for a new position when DS2 was 2 months old. The interview was 7 hours, and I knew that it would be long. I asked to pump, twice actually. It was no big deal, and I was offered the job 2 weeks later.
