When the word WOW comes out of the OBs mouth

Makes you worry a tad.

Since this pregnancy is very (VERY) close to the last one my doctor is being very cautious. Since I have had some intense BHs and kinda far from the hosptial we talked about what we would do in case of an emergency.

During the convo he went back over previous labors. The last one in sept was 5 hours with pitocin. The labor before that was only 3 hours natural. This is when the words wow came out lol.

I will have a copy of my records with me at all times and any signs of labor straight to nearest hoaptial. (I am closer to a different hosptial when I am at home compared to his hosptial when I am towards work or (local town). I also will be getting weekly ultrasounds to make sure everything is going ok in there, that the placenta is doing ok and my cervix does what it should.

At signs of an issue we will go over early induction and/or c-section as the case warrants. Basically trying to make sure if I go into labor early I don't have a premature baby on side of the road.

I am very thankful for a very proactive doctor.

  • I'm curious why fast labors would require the extra considerations including considering a c-section.

I have fast labors and tend to go early, so I restrict myself from traveling sooner than most, but can't imagine considering a c-section for either reason.

  • This sounds bad, but proactive or not, if you were meant to have your baby on the side of the road, it's just how it will happen. Life has a way of scraping away all your plans and giving you it's own. I have a very fast labor too and am preparing for that road side/at home/work (dear lord no) situation just in case. So maybe make a car kit, have 911 on speed dial and maybe even make a quick "text signal" that if your family and friends or SO receives a ***!!! from you it means you are going. And if you are worried about delivering stuck in traffic, do some research on cord clamping...  :S I hope this isn't the case for you, nor for myself.

You are lucky to be getting weekly ultrasounds. I am incredibly low risk with a previous emergency c-section and my only gateway key I was given was to tell the nurses at admissions that I have "precipitous labor" when I get in so they don't make me wait 30 minutes to admit me like last time.

@Rosebean:  I told the nurses about my previous fast labor when I went in with my 2nd.  They still made me lay down and be monitored for what seemed like forever, it was probably 30 minutes or so.  I went through most of my labor in there, by the time I got to the actual delivery room I had the baby pretty much as soon as I walked in.  I had a couple more contractions and then he was coming.

Labor was 2 hrs 45 mins total.  My first labor was 7 hours, with 3 hours of pushing.  This time around we're all packing up and going to the hospital at the first sign of labor.  My parents are going to meet us there (to take my 2 boys).

  • @Valancyy‌ at least they laid you down and monitored you. They didn't even let me fill out paper work for 30 minutes to get into a bed because I was a "FTM" who was "probably overreacting". When I finally did lay down to get monitored, all hell broke loose after that. They reacted a lot quicker than I ever expected them to.

    Have they measured your cervix?

My DD is 10 months old.  Because I got pregnant again in under 6 months PP, the doc said I needed to watch for any signs of early labor.  He was also going to be monitoring cervix length to make sure things were good to go there.

My situation is different because I didn't have a fast labor, but the cervix measuring seemed to be what is recommended for quick pregnancies.

  • Just to clarify (Sorry been at work) c-section is in even incase of a medical emergency, like she needs to be delivered. Sorry I didn't word that well.

All this is not just due to fast labors he is more proactive about this pregnancy being so soon after the last. With pregnancies so close together there is (I believe) a 40% chance that I will go into preterm labor. Ultrasounds to check cervix and placenta and whatnots everyweek.

  • I don't remember why, but I have you flagged in my head as crazy...

She was in the crazy mixed up drama months ago. Another chick said she said some awful stuff about her being a surrogate- but it was all total made-up BS.

@MallardDucky‌ seems pretty cool to me.

Why the c/s though? Is it to get baby out ASAP if needed?
Yes only if needed. Sorry I worded that weird
