Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher appreciation week is next week and I would like to get something small for the daycare teachers.
Does anyone have any ideas? Is anyone else thinking of getting things for their daycare teachers or am I crazy?

Here's a pic of my happy girl for your time :)

Re: Teacher Appreciation Week

  • We get them for the kids daycare provider who also does a full-preschool for them. I usually do a Starbucks or Peet's Coffee gift card for them or movie theater gift cards.

  • I agree that teaching high school sucks (LOL) we never get anything but I would love to get a STARBUCKS gift card so maybe the DC teachers would like that too :)

So as a teacher (paging you too @JennaBirdTheBride!) what's the best little thing to get? I said Starbucks GC but I really have no idea. Is that the way to go? Something else?

Anything small that you'd appreciate as a gift is lovely!  I know, personally, giftcards that can be used for coffee are highly appreciated.

Not that I've ever gotten one.

    Teaching high school stinks. ;)

I am a special education teacher... So... I always get "forgotten" about.  Parents always send gifts to their child's regular education teacher, not me.  Sad.  My favorite thing to hear from students, parents, co-workers is "I am talking about their REAL teacher... not you."  [-X

That makes me sad! You are just as important as their "real" teacher!

  • I'm gonna tell my SO that is teacher appreciation week next week and hope for something good (I am a teacher just on mat leave till September, oh man I miss working).

  • I'm a FTM so I wasn't sure how all this worked and that's why I turned to all of you lovely ladies. Thank you for your ideas :)

I know for the most part when they are this young, the teachers are pretty much like babysitters, but they read and sing to LO and take care of her all day, so I do think of them as more of a teacher.

  • I think we as teachers are secretly more excited than our students haha

  • Our DC has a different "gift" for each day posted on the family calendar -

Monday: bring a flower or thank you note for your teacher
Tuesday: bring something to help energize them through their day
Wednesday: bring a dish for the teacher potluck lunch
Thursday: bring some kind of supply to stock the classroom with
Friday: bring in a dessert for the teacher breakroom

Is this normal? I feel like I should do at least a little something for each day, but my lack of sleep/creativity has me fresh out of good ideas.
We have this too. I'd so rather just give them $20 gift cards, but guess I'll play by the rules. Nothing like forced appreciation, so genuine. Someone please hand me a Snickers.

  • PSA for all those that ARE teachers...Chipotle is BOGO on Tuesday (or free, can't remember which). Be prepared to stand in a LONG line.

And I'm so glad you posted this bc u would have completely forgotten to do anything...and I'm a teacher!

I saw a sign at the daycare this morning, but I didn't have time to read it. I wonder if ours has this too. I'll look when I pick her up today, but this could definitely turn into a lot of work.

  • I have always done Starbucks GCs for all the teachers for both Christmas and Teacher Appreciation week.

I've seen the "daily" thing both at elementary schools and DCs.  I don't like it.  It's not the same when someone tells you what to bring.  I'm going to give a gift because I want to show my gratitude... not because someone told me to.  And I'm a teacher.

Uhhh.... I've never heard of this.  And actually think it is totally inappropriate for the DC to post something like that... I think the directors should provide that stuff daily to the teacher if that is what they are wanting to do, like our principals/PTO do stuff like that throughout the week... But my principal would never tell my parents what the "should" bring...  Weird.

    Maybe I am weird?

I agree, I think it's totally inappropriate. That's so weird!

When I was teaching gift cards were seriously the best gift ever..can't go wrong! Super nice of all of you to do that for your daycare providers!

  • On sbux gift cards: I love coffee as much as any other teacher, but honestly, I would accept and appreciate any gift card. Last year I got a walmart card, and it was actually super helpful. So really, I would say, if you want a sbux gift card, go for it, but any gift card is helpful.

@cepayseur‌ That is ridiculous! We have always had an awesome room mom who would organize gifts for the teacher, assistants, and mainstream teacher. That can get expensive when you are getting gifts for 6 people.

I wasn't really a coffee drinker so I always received Target gc.

The room mom also organized treats, little gifts, or notes for every day of the week for just our class. PTA did something similar in the staff room for all of the teachers.
  • Our school also sent a list of things to bring in next week. :/

Monday: Bring in a sweet treat for your teacher
Tuesday: Tell your staff thank you! (FOR REAL???)
    Wednesday: NOTHING listed
Thursday: Bring in school supplies for your classroom
Friday: Satisfy your teacher with a tasty lunch

Ugh, so annoying. I don't mind bringing them in a small gift, but saying specifically what to do is a little annoying. Also, do these teachers really want home baked treats??? I wouldn't want stuff coming from people's kitchens who I haven't seen.

  • LO is at a center part-time. He technically has 2 teachers and then there are floaters that help out during busier times if needed. I haven't met the floaters and while I think there are only 2, I could be wrong. How would you handle gifts for teachers?

Also, LO and I stumbled upon an amazing local chocolate shop that makes everything in store today. Would some chocolate from there be an appropriate gift?
