Runny Stools

My LO is 10 weeks old. Due to what we think is a milk protein allergy, we switched him to Elecare around April 19th I believe. Since this formula is so much thinner than the Nutramigen he was on, his acid reflux got worse for a while. My husband ordered Gelmix to thicken up the formula so he wouldn't spit up as much. We started using the Gelmix on April 26th. So far, this has worked pretty well.

Since being switched to the Elecare, my LO has been straining a lot to go the bathroom the past couple of days but his stools have been pretty runny. Could the switch in formula cause this? I just want to make sure that everything is okay and that there isn't some sort of bacterial infection present. The Gelmix did state on the container that it could cause excessive gassiness for about two weeks.

Any ideas on what might be causing his stools to be so runny?

  • Good to know Gelmix works! I've got some on the way! We're also combating AR with Prevacid.

Our little guy's stools were pretty runny for a while. There was about a week (though much earlier on) where he strained quite a bit. I've noticed run-iness in his diapers usually comes from a change in formula or if I go from mostly breastfeeding to forumla for babysitters or convenience. But with him having an allergy, it never hurts to mention it to your pediatrician. From what I've read, as long as they ARE pooping and they are happy,
