PIO vs. Endometrin

I had my FET yesterday and so last night should have been my last PIO shot before switching over to suppositories today (I did start this morning). I called my nurse to ask how often I should take the endometrin because I got my instructions from a different nurse and I thought I kust have misunderstood her. Nope - they want me to take 2 suppositories in the a.m. and 2 at night! So I asked if there was a reason I couldn't just keep taking the PIO as I prefer it.

She said I could continue with 1 ML of the PIO instead of the endometrin 4 times a day. Does that sound right? I feel like maybe it should be more than 1 ML?

Im just notsure what to do now. Do you have any prefrences?

Re: PIO vs. Endometrin

  • I'm pretty sure my PIO is still 2cc after FET. My original calendar is at home, so I cannot double check, but 2cc is what I have in my digital calendar. So unless I entered it in wrong... But it was only 1cc after my fresh cycle. Did they totally suppress you before your FET or did they allow you to ovulate? If you did ovulate, then your own body would produce some progesterone, so maybe 1 is enough. If they suppressed you and prevented ovulation (as my doc plans to) you may need more...?

I have never tried suppositories before, only PIO, so I cannot really talk about preference. I can say I do not have a problem with the injections and the side effects folks have mentioned about suppositories (messiness, bleeding, irritation, etc), I would have to say I am not anxious to switch.

  • I can't comment on endometrin since I haven't been on it. For my 3 IVFs with my local RE, I did PIO (1 ml) and progesterone/E2V suppositories (1 each night). For my FET with my out of town clinic, I start off at 1 ml of PIO and up it to 1.5 ml 3 days before transfer.

  • For my fresh IVFs I did Endometrin 3x a day.  My FET is 1cc PIO daily.   My nurse told me that generally once they confirm a heartbeat, they give the option of switching from PIO to Endometrin.  I asked if I could just stay on the PIO and she said that's fine to.
