Working ladies, how are you coping these last few weeks?

I am officially downright miserable. Everything I do hurts and I can't get anything accomplished. To make me all the happier I heard the ever so popular "I'll see you next week" from my dr yesterday :/

Re: Working ladies, how are you coping these last few weeks?

  • Today is my last day in the office and I'm soooo excited! I'll be working from home until I deliver but not having to get dressed in work clothes will be nice! I'm due Thursday so hopefully it won't be much longer. I really couldn't have made it this long if I didn't have such laid back understanding bosses.. I've been working pretty light hours and leaving by 4 this last week or two which has helped so much. Hang in there ladies!

  • I'm with you. Choosing to work up to labor is starting to feel like a questionable decision. I have 9 days til EDD. I can't sit, stand, or lay down for too long without some sort of discomfort or pain. So work comes in bursts (sit for 30 min, stand up, sit for 30 min, walk around, sit for 45 min, go pee, sit for an hour, walk around, repeat). The good news is, working definitely helps to pass the time. If I were at home, I MIGHT be slightly more comfortable, but bored out of my mind and way too focused on the clock and waiting for labor.

  • 6 Days until EDD (ticker is one day off, whoops). I cried in the kitchen this morning because it hurt just to stand up to make coffee. I was trying to work until my due date, but I think I might just throw in the towel. I'm a wuss.

I'll still be working for another week but today is my last day in court. Two trials starting. I am not a happy camper.

  • Today is my last day of work. This week has been really hard on my body. I am so sore every night after work. Plus I'm a teacher and feel that I haven't been doing as well of a job teaching. Just exhausted. So I'm glad I made the choice for this to be my last day.

I am putting in one more week if I can. The arthritis like pain in my hands is getting worse by the day and is now creeping through all of my joints. Just taking it day by day.

This is exactly why my dr made me start maternity leave today! When I walked into my appointment completely hunched over, almost in tears! It wasn't fair to my students either! I was trying to stick it out another week, but I just couldn't! They deserve to have a young fun sub the last 4 weeks of school, not a miserable old pregnant teacher! Lol!

  • I am just dealing with it as best I can. My main motivation is that if I take off on maternity leave now, it cuts into my time at home with the baby and I definitely don't want to do that. I just keep thinking about that and making that force me into dealing with it for now. I am very fortunate as I don't feel THAT uncomfortable just yet - I was already uncomfortable and OVER working at this point with DS1. My only real complaint is the commute to/from work and the swelling that I get from sitting at my desk all day. I try to prop my feet and walk around whenever I can, but it seems to happen no matter what. 18 more days of work for me. Hoping it goes by very quickly.

Not well. Yesterday I came home and got into bed at 6pm. I'm swollen from the calves down, back hurts, BH contractions and babe won't lay off my ribs, plus exhaustion. It doesn't help that DH has off so he's still in bed everyday when I leave. I have 1 more week of work and then another week before my EDD. I'm not very productive but luckily my coworkers are pretty understanding especially those that have been through it.

  • Yeah I'm pretty over work at this point. I've transitioned most of my stuff and I spend too much time mobile bumping. There's just no motivation left. 12 days til my EDD (18 til RCS). So I guess 10 work days at the most isn't too bad, I'm just ready to be done!

  • I am with all of you... 5 days left till my due date and I am so over this... feet/ankles swelling I don't want to get dressed in the mornings to come to work... which we are business attire so it really stinks wearing those type of clothes right now.  I just want to wear yoga pants and do nothing till she comes out.  I was planning on working till the 9th if she didn't come by my DD of the 7th but I think I am going to call it a day after the 7th.  PRAYING she will be here over the weekend and then i can just throw in the towel for Mon.  I don't want to stay at home without a baby either.  Trying to hold out.

It's pretty painful.  It's not so bad when I'm just sitting in the classroom, but walking between classes, I'm slow...there's only a 5 minute passing time between classes and in that time, I have to walk through a huge school that is 4 stories high so sometimes I'm waiting for an elevator, I need to stop for a bathroom break and I'm so slow from the pain that It's exhausting just to get to the next classroom I'm working in.  I'm 6 days away from the due date...I'm hoping to just keep working til he comes, but I'm really hoping this weekend will bring good news.

  • No coping advice- it sucks! DH and I own an auto repair shop and I do all the service writing (tickets, quotes etc.), accounting and receptionist duties. I've been training everyone else to handle my work while I'm out but it's stressful.

I'm here from 8:30-6:30/7 at night 5 days a week so sore back/hips and swollen feet are here to stay. I've told DH he's in charge of everything at home. I'm just trying to get this months bills sorted out so DH isn't overwhelmed when he comes back in after the birth. I'm 38w6d today and they are going to induce me for LO's shoulder size (I'm really hoping they call and say today). My only coping mechanism is knowing it's going to be over soon.

I'm doing ok. My feet etc are pretty swollen by the time the day is over, but it's more comfortable to be in my feet and moving then lying around/sitting.

I also just finished a c section on a lady who's EDD is the day before mine, which made me excited for my turn--- he can't stay inside forever!!

I've got 22 days plus left to go. I planned to work up to my due date but don't know if I can do it! I'm good in the am but by mid day I can't sit in meetings for long- it's getting so uncomfortable. If I'm on my feet I get horrible lightening crotch. Walking out to the car is an effort. I come home and I'm exhausted and my back hurts.

I sympathize with all of you!!!
  • I keep telling myself the longer I stay here, the more time I'll have off with the baby. No paid maternity leave for me, which is pretty motivating to keep working and earn that cheese.

  • Ugh... My boss just asked if I wanted all my shifts next week scheduled still and I said yes. I'm a bartender/manager and am on my feet and bending over the entire time I work. It's getting really really hard. I was planning to go till the 17th but think next week might be my last. However, I did get a lot of extra tips last night because I'm pregnant which was awesome!
  • It just plain sucks. I'm not due until the 31st, but my last day of work will be the 16th. Two more weeks! I've already trained my replacement and she's on her own, so I have nothing to do. I literally sit at my desk and mobile bump ALL day long. Sitting at this desk is starting to get very uncomfortable. Two more weeks. Two more weeks.

I have two weeks left and of course there was a train derailment today in NYC and I had to hoof it with my laptop and bag across town to the office.

Thankfully, I can work from home a few days a week.  I just want to get everything squared away before I leave.

This is me too.  I am hardly being as productive and really want to start my leave now, but I don't have paid leave and need all my time for after with baby.  But I am so ready to be done!

I'm not coping. Two weeks ago I told my boss I either need to wfh or I will be starting leave early. So I've been wfh the last two weeks. My method for working has been answer emails as necessary. I call it making sure everything has been passed off successfully. If I need to intervene, obviously it hasn't been fully passed off yet which I address right there. Today is my last day wfh before leave and I couldn't even bring myself to call into meetings. I've taken naps instead.

ETA: Anyone still actually working or attempting to go into the office at this point (by choice or not) are rockstars in my book. That shit is hard.
  • Im not coping. Im just sitting here, getting pissed off at incompetent people, speaking my mind to people (and blaming the hormones), and counting down the days. I somehow have to make it to the 23rd or until I go into labor. It feels so far away and that just pisses me off even more, making me more grumpy, causing me to say things to people I shouldnt say, and wanting to just leave. Vicious cycle!
I can say that I've been speaking my mind a little too forcefully, too. I can't help that I'm surrounded by morons!  :-@

  • Today was my last day and I feel like I certainly justified it being my last day. Contractions all day, exhausted, nausteated, hard time standing, sitting, concentrating. I feel like I threw in the towel but I really can't do it anymore.

  • I'm 20 days away from my due date. I'm dying. My feet and legs are killing me. I'm still taking the subway to work and being around 23 screaming first graders has really tested my patience the last week. My principal makes sure I'm sitting with my feet up but I'm really not sure how much more I can handle. My doctor is on maternity leave so I've been seeing the nurse practitioner and she will not give me a dr note to go out early even though my feet look like loaves of bread. I'm thinking I'm going to have to go cry to one of the other doctors to get my way. I'm hoping this will be my last week of work. I'm spent and the husband wants me to throw in the towel.
  • I'm 37 weeks today and I think I'm doing ok at work.  I work 12 hour shifts in the ER, but by the end I'm pretty exhausted.  Knowing I only have 6 more shifts keeps me motivated.  My last one is at 39 weeks.

My problem is when I come home.  I have absolutely no patience for other drivers and a bit of road rage.   Today I wanted to murder the 300 people that wouldn't stop while I waited to cross a crosswalk.  I may have yelled a few profanities.  Bastards, all of them.  <done ranting>

Jealous of all these beautiful baby pictures I'm seeing!

I'm an elementary school teacher and still doing ok. I did make the kids bring their math up to my desk to check their work today. I'm just tired and running out of practice.

I had a job interview yesterday and they offered me the position! It's part-time for next school year and a mile from my house, whihoow! Now I need to pack up my entire classroom, tell my current principal and prep for a sub in the next couple weeks. How?

Today was my last day at work, and EDD. All my students were asking why I was at school instead of the hospital having the baby. Love my kids, and definitely going to miss them. I want to try to go Monday, but I'm REALLY hoping she makes her appearance before then!

I'm a RN and work 12 hour shifts. I'm doing OK but I work on a really busy floor and some days I go home and after sitting a while, can't put any weight on my hips. I'm not due until the 25th and my last day is the 20th. I just look forward to more time with the baby. Plus the weather hasn't been very nice so it helps that I will have more time off during the summer. I'm hoping to have made some progress at my next appointment. Last week (36w) my MW said I'm locked up tight.

I am not coping well but still plugging away. Like some other ladies I am working until labor, I have about two weeks PTO and the rest is unpaid leave, plus I still have to pay all my health insurance because work does not cover it for while I am on leave. SO i need to get as much money in the bank as possible and I want to save my time to be with LO. Due date is 12 days away, and I am currently on the schedule through the 19th. I have a physically demanding job and it is getting tough to move, my feet are killing me, and I get cramps all the time. Not to mention I can't get around as quickly but still get in trouble if I get overtime. I am also kind of freaking about about finishing everything I want/need to at work before baby arrives, but at the same time I am so very ready to be done.
  • Not sure if it is the 12 hour shift, but was really waddle-y today, even when I didn't have to pee. Hips and feet are killer and I have one more day before my next week of vacation when I hope LO will make his appearance. Sadly one of my midwives was pretty sure I'll go late, which means another week of 12 hour shifts. (That week I'll work 3 twelve and a 4. Not excited. )

Omg I thought I was just me!!!! My joints in my fingers are so swollen it hurts!!!!

  • I'm not coping. I'm a 7th grade teacher working up until I got to hospital. I want to be done so badly. I've had everything ready to go since the end of march "just in case," and now I just feel like I'm playing the waiting game. My feet hurt if I stand too long, my hip hurts if I sit, it's a lose lose, and I'm sick of all the dumb comments.... Oh you're still pregnant? You going to make it? You're getting huge- poor thing! Go jump around on a trampoline.... You're still here?
