Let's talk decor...where do you shop?

Since our entire upstairs is in the process of renovation, of course I want to buy some new things. Mainly...end tables and lamps.

I found a lamp I was in love with on PBK and thought the price was outrageous. But now that I've been scouring Target I realize $100 for a shade and lamp base isn't that crazy.

Where are some of your favorite stores to buy new things for sprucing up the home?

$100 for a lamp isn't too bad. I've gotten some great deals on lamps from JC Penney of all places; especially when things are on clearance. Actually bought our crib there too. ETA: I shop their website, not the actual store.

  • Homegoods can be good.  It's hit or miss, but if you hit it right, you can get some nice stuff at good prices.
  • I loveee TJ Maxx. We just got a Marshalls close to me but I don't like it nearly as much. Home Goods is about an hour away.

  • Homegoods for sure! My other personal favorite is "Kirklands". You can find some good deals there sometimes and make sure you sign up for the email club. You get the coupons and updates on the sales.

Home Goods is like crack!!! I love that store! But Marshall's is good too and owned by the same company so that's my second fave. For nursery stuff I've had to buy a lot online (bedrest ugh) so I've been using Etsy, EBay, Land of Nod, Diapers.com (great crib deal the other day), & Baby Supermall. A lot of it has been for bedding stuff but if you're looking for decor you can always use Google Shopping and see what pops up because it finds stores everywhere. You could also see if there's a furniture consignment store in your area as well. :)

  • This is a dangerous thread for me to keep looking at. Now, I will have to go and check out these places online to see the deals. AHHHHH! :-S

I LOVE shopping online. So much better than leaving home and the packages! The UPS guy has to know my nesting has begun.

Oh also, check eBay for pottery barn stuff. Sometimes you can find pretty good deals for brand new items there. :)

  • I also like homegoods. And World Market. I don't tend to gravitate to any one place though, I keep my eyes out wherever I am. So I've gotten good stuff at JCPenney, Kohls, Target, Meijer, Thrift Stores, and so on. It can take a long time to decorate that way though!

I'm sorry but $100 for a lamp is ridiculous. I refuse to pay that. I like Ross, Marshall's, and TJ Maxx for some things or but amazon and Ebay are my go to places. I'm an online shopping kinda girl.

ETA: omgosh I just remembered bed bath and beyond! Love it.
  • I usually just bounce from place to place for things, but with living in a small town with places that haven't seen new decor items since the 70s, I shop online for what I need if I can't make the 100 mile trip to go shopping.
  • I am a pottery barn addict! I also like world market and crate and barrel.

Ditto Homegoods & Joss and Main, but also check out wayfair.com and overstock.com if you're good with online shopping. Even amazon has more than you'd think!

Why are area rugs so expensive? Uggggghhhhhhh. I need several good sized ones for the hardwood floors in our new house and the patterns I like are all $400 for a 5' x 7'.

Check Overstock, a lot of our rugs are from there and they usually have great deals!

Pier One has some fun stuff, I love looking around that store. I also suggest TJ Maxx/Marshalls. Does Ross have home goods too? We are getting one next month around here!

I shop at yard sales and thrift stores and usually find what I need though! I have some nice lamps I got from Salvation Army and just had to buy new shades for them.

Lowes has really nice curtains, thats where I've gotten my last few sets.

I totally agree. We have two rugs from Overstock and they are great quality, relatively inexpensive, and ship quickly!
  • Homegoods. And sometimes Christmas tree shop has some lamps. Big lots is another favorite. And what-a-store has some interesting furniture finds.

Also try RugsUSA. They always have sales for 50-80% off and they have a HUGE selection.

Most of our rugs are from Overstock too. If you aren't in a rush, you can monitor the rugs to see when the ones you like go on sale which is what we did and got some great deals on them!
