  • I really like "the baby whisperer" and her eat, activity, sleep routine.

  • I think Dr Ferber says no CIO until baby can self soothe, so... 6 months?
  • Depends what you call sleep training. As PP say, you can start with a routine from the start but no CIO or bottles with water till they are 4-6 months old.
  • I'm hoping you mean a bed time routine...

  • For now i just do a bedtime routine. At 6 months old i will see if my DS will need to be sleep trained or not. With my DD i used the Sleep Easy book when she was 6 months old. I loved it and after one night she was doing better and by the second night she did not cry when i put her down anymore. There is no one size fits all so you should tailor to your childs needs. This does use a form of CIO with check ins after 5,10,15, and 15 minutes after that until they fall asleep.

I'm another with Healthy Sleep Habbits, Happy Child. Take it all (and all sleep books) with a grain of salt though. No true sleep training until about 6 mos.

What do bottles w/ water have to do w/ sleep?

This early - bedtime routine is about it.

A trick I read somewhere, when they are old enough to be makeing it through the night without feeding but are still waking to feed out of habit, you offer a bottle of water instead of breast milk or formula. Baby learns this is what they get at night and that it isn't worth waking up for and sleep through.
  • 12 hours of sleep in 12 weeks. It worked on both my boys. I really don't think you can start it though until 6-8 weeks.
  • You can keep track of when they are eating and going down at night, look for patterns and make a routine out of it. You can also start creating sleep associations. We keep the babies in the crib, swaddled with the sound machine on at night (I also sleep in the nursery so I'm only 2 feet away from them). They are learning to associate that environment with sleep.

  • I love The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems. I "trained" DS to put himself to sleep in his bed at 2 mos with her method-no crying. The EASY routine was great for us.

  • I read allll the books it felt like last time and the only one that helped much was 90 minute sleep solution. There are certainly things you can do like a routine and putting your baby down sleepy but awake to let them drift off on their own.

IMO, though, most sleep things are based on your child's personality. You do what you can, but some kids just respond better than others to the same things. No matter what I tried my daughter was never a great sleeper, and eventually her sleep got better all on it's own, when she was ready. I wish I had wasted less effort trying to make her be a better sleeper because all I did was make myself crazy.
