Child allergies/asthma

Is anyone else dealing with this? My son had an asthma attack and we ended up in the ER Tuesday nite and I was feeling guilty because I let him play outside Monday. My ped says to allow him to run outside to not become a couch potato, frankly he's an outdoors kid who cries when we come in, and we've come up with a new treatment plan. How are you dealing with it?

    T has asthma. We have a nebulizer and control it that way with nightly treatments for now. He hasn't yet been diagnosed with exercise induced asthma but I expect that to come up soon. Right now it's only if he has any kind of congestion.

    That's so scary that you ended up in the ER! I hope he's doing better now!

    DS is very similar- he started wheezing after a few of his colds over the winter. right now he's getting an inhaled steroid via the nebulizer every night until his 21 month checkup at the end of may. then they may give us the all-clear to stop. our pedi said she didn't think it was allergies because his congestion/wheezing cleared up in between colds. i will not be surprised if he has allergies, though, since both DH and i have them. he loves to play outside. i think allergies are particularly brutal right now, at least in the northeast, because everything is starting to bloom now and we just had a lot of rain.

    that is scary having to go to the ER, though! hope you've come up with a workable plan with your pedi, but of course a kid has to be able to play outside!

    We are on a daily regiment of zyrtec and preventative inhaler. With my set of allergies,and asthma I made sure the pedi that we had was familiar with dealing with allergy and asthma issues.

    We're not sure what Charlotte has, other than that she is highly susceptible to respiratory illnesses.  She had RSV once last winter and had had it three times this year by early March.  Therefore, they prescribed her a daily inhaler to try to prevent when possible.

    Since then, she's had another bad cough two times.  We haven't had her checked out; instead we just bought a nebulizer and use the treatments when we deem it necessary.  She does have an albuterol "emergency" inhaler that she can use 4x per day when sick, but when she's sick, she hates the inhaler.  She's much more willing to do the nebulizer (she loves that thing.)

    We'll see if this develops into full-fledged asthma or seasonal allergies.

    Luckily my son is so good about the nebulizer. We went after his breathing got funny. I'm on high alert though Bc his twin sister had pneumonia/virus 2 weeks earlier and we were hospitalized for a week. I knew at intake when his oxygen level was 95 we wouldn't be stuck there. It is scary. He's had RSV twice.
