I'm curious if anyone has dealt with hypospadias and the treatment for same? My 30 weeker was not circumcised due to the hypospadias.... They advised we should wait until he is about a year old. He will be a year on May 25th and we had our follow up appointment Monday with the urologist. They are now recommending a series of testosterone injections before the circumcision. Honestly I would rather just skip it all but my husband feels pretty strongly about the circ. I am wondering if anyone has been through this before and has any insight? Thanks!
Re: Hypospadias and testosterone injections
I have no idea about the testosterone injections, I would think that they would (temporarily, at least) make the penis bigger so they have a larger area to work with. This is also a reason that many doctors wait until 6-12 months to do the surgery- so that baby is more stable and there is a larger area to work with.
The reason your son was not circumcised beforehand is that they typically use the foreskin when repairing hypospadias. I know this seems weird, but it's a very common way to fix the area.
If I were you, I would be asking your sons doctor these questions, not us. We can only say so much, but your doctor can answer everything.
