Dealing with "why" stage

My daughter is 34 months old and has always been a really big talker. I get absolutely no quiet time until she goes to bed. Lately she is constantly asking "why?". Over and over again about anything and everything and it's driving me crazy. Any advice on surviving this stage? I'm also expecting baby #2 and feel terrible 24/7 so it makes it even harder to deal with.

Re: Dealing with "why" stage

  • My DD is 27 months and is also doing the same thing!  Plus I work in a school and the little kids around 3 always ask why non-stop.  The good news is that it is typically a stage. Also, you should be proud that your LO is so inquisitive and is seeking knowledge. :)  Hang in there!

  • I found that she didn't ask why so much when I answered all of her questions.  Really, just try to answer them all - simply.  When she asks the same one, dig deeper.  I did a lot of "well, I answered that question three times now, but it seems like it didn't answer what you wanted answered, so can you phrase the question differently?  what else are you trying to ask me?"  And, when I ran out of answers, I said "I don't know" or "I cannot answer that question".
