Intro and Question

HI all!

Here's my quick introduction. My name is Nicole, I'm a sahm, I'm 26, married to an amazing man and I have an amazing daughter who's 19 months old.

I'm sorry in advance I know you guys must get these all the time but I have another is it time to ttc question. I just wanted some outsiders opinions I know in the end only my DH and I can decide what's best. So, my DH and I have been discussing when would be the best time to have a second child. Last month we decided to wait until he got into his career. At the moment he's a manager for a grocery store and in May he is graduating college to become a diesel mechanic. He also just applied for a job that would have him making over $40 an hour after he gets out of school. Right now it looks like there is a good chance of him getting it. Unfortunately, that would require us moving 2 hours from our family. His mom might move there but that's not a guarantee. I'm a sahm which I absolutely love. I'm on a wait list to become a radiographer. The soonest I'll get in would be in August 2015.  Maybe it's just baby fever kicking in but I been thinking if my husband does get the job, this May might be a good time to TTC. So here's my reasons to try now: They'd be close in age and can play with similar toys. I can finally toss out all the baby gear since we're only having two. DH was hoping to be done having kids by 30 and I'm afraid if we wait to long my husband might change his mind about having a second.  I could spend a little more time with second and not have to worry about taking time off work. Here's my reason to wait: We would be more stable and own a house. If I got pregnant next month I would have a 6 month old and a 3 year old once my school started which might make school tough. It would be harder to leave the house with two little ones. Family might judge us for not waiting. It would be a little challenging chasing a toddler and being pregnant.

Sorry for the essay I've been obsessing about this in my head. So just curious on your guys opinion are should we ttc next month if he get the job or does it sound like I just have baby fever and should wait?

For me the bolded answers your question.

If you were not 26 (like, if you were say, 39) I might say you should try right away.

    Gl to you!

  • Thank you for your reply. Your right I just got caught up in the excitement of the idea of getting pregnant again but it would be more logical to wait.

  • You already have the pros and cons list, but I think you need to weigh what is more important to the two of you... is it your children being close in age/having plenty of time with them in their younger stages; or is it more important to have more space and a more permanent living area? I wouldn't worry about the family part, unless of course they would be around to help when you come home from the hospital.

  • Thanks for the replies. I have been very indecisive but I think what would be best is if I wait until after I get my degree then try for a second. Then I can stay home with both for three to five years then try to get into my career. That way I can have the best of both worlds stay home with the kids while they are young and not worry about putting my career on hold. If we need any extra income maybe I could work part time at a daycare. My husband already said he's fine with me being a sahm. Thanks for the help and if trying for a baby good luck.

  • IMO taking time off after getting a degree (especially in something like radiography) seems like it might cost you in the long run. I don't know a lot about it, but don't things in the medical field usually require keeping current? I would finish having kids before going to school so there isn't that gap between getting a degree and starting a career. Or, get a degree and career going and then try for #2 and do the WM thing.

    Good luck with your decision!

  • Thanks for reminding me your right that might look bad to future employers. Hmm I'm so bad at making decisions. I feel like I'm making the wrong choice no mater what I choose. I wish there was an easy answer.

I'm a nurse and this was my exact first thought. Don't do that. If anything, TTC now, have the second and put school on hold for the several years you are hoping to be a SAHM.

Not only is it paramount to stay on top of changes in the medical field, but that will look awful on a resume and without any experience under your belt (aside from clinicals in school) you will lose your entire skill set this way.

    Something to strongly consider.
