Sweep

Hi all just wondering if you've had a sweep and how successful it has been? I had one this morning and midwife was happy with progress as 1st time mum on due date I was 1cm dilated cervix was soft and thin and she was able to have a good sweep around. No cramping or bleeding since. Just wondering if anyone has had any past experience with sweep?thank you all

I had one done at 39 weeks, and then again at 40 weeks. It didn't work for me either time.

It only something that will work if you just need a nudge to go into labor. I personally wouldn't do one until 41 weeks (unless there was some concern that warranted needing baby to come earlier). I did have one with my last at 41 weeks 3 days and went into labor within 2 hours.

I am not planning on having it. I've heard it hurts a lot and sometimes doesnt help.

Mine didn't hurt at all. Was uncomfortable but not painful. But still no sign of labour apart from loosing mucus plug.

Update- drank a cocktail containing castor oil last night as well (ordered by my midwife). Had pre labor contractions from 3am to 11am, and water broke at 2pm! Probably has more to do with the fact that I'm 40 weeks than either the membrane stripping or the castor oil.
