Wonderful news!

I don't know if you guys remember, but when DD2 was younger, she had some strange episodes that ended up earning her an ambulance ride and a hospital stay.

The first neurologist we saw was a complete jerk. His attitude, combined with a change of diagnosis when there were no new symptoms, led me to seek out a second opinion. Well, I finally met with another neurologist yesterday.

That second Dr was nothing like the first we saw. He was nice, he knew how to deal with little children, and most important;y, he knew how to listen to my concerns. Before even opening her file, he said he liked to start from scratch and draw his conclusion without letting someone else's ideas influence him, so we went over her entire medical history together. He was just SO GOOD with her she actually answered all his questions herself (she usually just hides from any medical staff) and did everything he asked her to do. He was really impressed with her gross motor skills considering she was such a late walker and even called her advanced when he checked her cognitive skills (proud mama moment :) ).

The Dr basically confirmed what I suspected: the first diagnosis (convulsions) we had was wrong. He said he was certain that DD2 had experienced abdominal migraines. He said that now that they had stopped, the chances of them coming back were practically non existent. However, he did warn us that people who experience this type of migraine as children are very likely to have actual migraines later on in life. But hey I'll take migraines over convulsions any day!

I cannot even tell you guys how relieved I am. I hadn't realized just how heavy that situation weighed on me until I walked out of the Dr's office.

It was a very long day, as that 2nd Dr was in my home town, 2.5 hours away. Thankfully, my brother (he still lives there) was able to come and give me a hand with Baby Boy (DD1 was at daycare, thank goodness). DD2 had an EEG at 1PM, but we didn't see the Dr until 3:30. Poor little thing was exhausted and fell asleep sitting on a chair in the doctor's office. Still, she was a real trooper the entire day, and even laid still for the entire EEG (that's 20 minutes with electrodes stuck to your head - not a small feat when you're an almost-3-year-old who usually has a complete meltdown when a nurse so much as approaches you).

So in a nutshell: I was right to trust my mommy instinct and DD2 got a clean bill of health. It was a long and tiring day but it was definitely worth it

Wow I am very sorry that you had to deal with all this. I am happy that it is all over and you got the right diagnosis! We also drive 1 hour for our doctor because he is simply amazing and we wouldn't change him for anything in the world...

I grew up being prone to migraines (my father has them too), they were pretty bad, but hey with the right medication at the time and recognising when a big one is coming life is easy. I mean, apart for a couple of times I couldn't go out with friends because I was feeling miserable...it is a easy "disease" to grow up with... Not big deal at all. After my first pregnancy, inexplicably they were gone for good...

PD: I used them as a teen a couple of time to skip class.. (that was awesome...)
