PSA: Babys R Us Registry Completion

Hi everyone, I want to first start by saying I have been MIA for a while, so I hope everyone is doing well!!  It's the home stretch!

I searched and didn't find this posted anywhere else, so I thought I would share.

We recently received our 15% off registry completion coupon in the mail (score!) and were going to order everything on line because we're lazy.  Well, we realized that if you use any additional coupons, such as the rewards points and/or if you use gift cards you don't actually get 15% off all the items.  No matter how you put in the info they remove the initial coupons first then apply the 15% off.  So for example: you have $500 worth of stuff to buy, you put in $100 worth of gift cards then $10 of rewards point, they are only giving you a 15% discount off of $390 worth of stuff, not the full $500 order.  When you're not spending much it doesn't make much of a difference, but when it's hundreds of dollars it adds up.  We called customer service and there wasn't anything they could do for us.  They suggested we go into the store to have it sorted out.  That's what I'll be doing tomorrow, I'll update with the results.

PSA part two: It was also recommended to us to get a Baby's R Us credit card, they give you 10% (I think) off of your first purchase with the card, so you can use the card and completion coupon at the same time.  Which equals huge savings.  Note: the same issue noted above happens with the card and coupon.

I hope that makes sense, sorry for being a bit long winded, I just wanted to be clear!

Re: PSA: Babys R Us Registry Completion

  • I went in and got my completion coupon in store, opened a credit card and got another 15% off, then used a 20% off coupon off and a $5 off $15 coupon I had. They had no problem stacking all the coupons in store. Hope you have good luck tomorrow!

  • What?! Mine was 15% off! Target and Amazon and BBB were all 10% off for me.

My BRU was also only 10% off, which is useless unless you're buying expensive stuff.
  • I know this is a dumb question but you don't have to buy everything off of your registry to use the completion coupon, right?

  • Just FYI, Amazon is 15% if you're an Amazon Mom.

Nope! You can use it on whatever is remaining on your registry. Some places it's just a blanket percentage off too. But if not, just add what you're buying on your registry and then you should be able to use the coupon. Amazon is a pain in the ass though, they'll only let you use your coupon on certain items. They do give 15% if you have Prime or Moms though.

BRU had a deal where you'd get 10% of whatever was spent on your registry back in GC 10 weeks after baby was born. I made a registry for my pricey stuff on there, bought it myself with my completion coupon, and then will get another GC later.

@satrimm, My completion coupon is definitely 15% at BRU.

Sorry @katekat8721, I don't think I was clear enough, it let me use all the coupons, but it give me an incorrect discount.

Because I like math, I'll break down my example better:

    Order total: $500
    Gift cards: $100
    Rewards coupons: $10

Plus the 15% off.  So what SHOULD happen is:

$500 minus the 15% equals $75 off, so the order total is $425, then you subtract the $100 in gift cards and the $10 in rewards and get a total of: $315 <- this is what you should be paying.

    What DOES happen:

$500 minus the $100 in gift cards then minus the $10 in rewards which gives you $390, then it takes the 15% off giving you a total of $331.5

As you can see that's about a $15 difference, but the more you spend the bigger the difference in cost to you.  I figure a lot of people might be buying furniture of bigger ticket items with the coupons and you kind of get screwed if combining them with others.  I'll keep you posted on what happens tomorrow.  But you may want to double check your receipt and see if the same thing happens to you.

    math hurts my head...

^:)^  Thanks for the break down... I'll have to see what I am going to get where and with what discounts and coupons...

Ours came in and I'm out shopping around right now but I think ours was only 10 % completion. It's really only enough to piss me off. I know for a fact target only sent 10%. Hmph. I hope I'm wrong about BRU but thanks for the heads up!

Mine was only 10% too, I've got some other coupons I plan on using with it but I feel like 10% is useless unless you need big stuff

mine is 10% as well... and it says 10% on their website...

still haven't gotten it in the mail though, they called yesterday and said to be on the lookout for it and to come in if we don't get it by the end of next week.

    ^Same for me.

I did a big registry on Amazon because I prefer them in general, and will join Amazon Mom to get the 15% off completion discount they offer for the products on there offered by Amazon (most of mine.) I have a small registry of things left on BRU, the important thing being a glider that was exclusive to them that I want to use the coupon for because it is an expensive purchase.

  • Dang maybe I just got lucky with my completion coupon. It was definitely 15% and I was able to pick it up in store a little over a month ago. They recently just sent me the 15% off completion coupon again in the mail :\"> Here's to buying more baby stuff we probably don't need!

That is so crappy.  Maybe try a different BRU?  That makes no sense.  I know they are strange about rewards, but a gc should be treated like any regular payment.

My completion coupon was also 10% and I'm totally getting those reward coupons, $5/time, that each expire in different two-week spans. Annoying.

I received my coupons and BRU completion coupon yesterday in the mail and mine is for 15% off. @jtaylor199‌ this might sound stupid, but I'm thinking if the clerk didn't check the 15% off first, then maybe that's why it worked out the way it did. Sometimes those systems don't take the overall total into consideration. So the system saw the new total (after the gc) and then took 15% off....or maybe BRU is being sneaky. Which me no likey. Like they don't make enough money off of us!

mine says 10% unless more than $1,000 is spent on my registry.. which now gives me 15% back.
  • How you get rewards coupons?  I want to be rewarded!!!

  • Babies R Us is also expensive! Amazon is almost always a better deal, especially since no sales tax on the items (at least in my state and most others).

Does anyone know for Amazon's completion discount if "sold by Amazon" includes items "sold by ____ and fulfilled by Amazon?" I'm going to be kind of pissed if it doesn't.

I got my completion coupon on amazon and it looks like everything on my registry is eligible.

  • So I'm not sure why mine was 15% and other people only have 10%, maybe it was when I created my registry?  I vaguely remember there being a promotion going on when I created my registry for an extra 5% off completion coupon when registering in a certain time frame.  I could be completely making that up though.

I know a lot of people are mentioning Amazon as well, signing up for Amazon Mom is free and you get 15% off, so it's really worth it.  I have Prime and signed up for it just to bump my 10% to 15%.

So I went down to BRU today and it was a 2 hour ordeal but they were able to resolve the issue.  They did confirm that the gift cards were being applied first then the discount was being applied, hence us losing out on the full amount of the discount.  @larmant, we were doing the order in line before, and that's exactly what the system was doing.  The super helpful sales associate at the store said that when we called the 800 number they should have been able to resolve the issue, but when we spoke with them they said they couldn't.

From what I gathered is that if you go to the store you shouldn't have an issue because of how they input the information into the system.  If you do it on line then it will get screwed up, and apparently there is no way around it, unless you get someone on the phone more helpful than we had.  So just be aware if you're using gift cards and coupons on line!  Even if you only get 10% off, if you have $100 in gift cards that's $10 more you're spending that you shouldn't be.

@PressLove, you just need a rewards card, which you can get free in the store.
