Question about dinner

Do you and your SO make plans for dinner/decide what to cook? OR is it left solely up to you?

Re: Question about dinner

  • I was just wondering b/c i have to meal plan on my own with basically no input. Tonight was a free night (meaning i didn't know what to cook). So we are either going to have potatoe soup or take out.

  • DH always says "i don't care what you cook" which is not helpful. I will be glad when DS can give me his input.
  • Well...I don't cook.

    I know I know.  I am a disgrace.

    So it's usually 100% up to H.

  • DH is willing to have me make all the dinner decisions, but I get really tired of the meal planning so I explained it was a household "chore" he needed to help out with.

He figured it was more a compliment than a burden to always say "I don't care; whatever you want to make."

  • I do the meal planning by myself.

H is very indecisive and if it were up to him he'd eat steak every night for dinner.

We meal plan and usually do it together. Making meals is also 50/50.

I was the cook even before I was a SAHM.  DH can "cook" some foods, but he's best left not to.
I will sometimes ask for his input, or cook things he favors on certain days for him, but it's been more or less unanimously up to me for ... most all the time we've been out of college and not eating in a school cafeteria. :)

We don't meal plan.  Well, at most, I might be like "oh, hey, it's sunday, I should make soup or a stir-fry so DH has something to take for lunch tomorrow".  But I usually don't decide what's for dinner until 3 or 4pm.  (We eat dinner at 5:30pm.)  (There are a few exceptions - we're doing sushi tonight; so I've planned that ahead of time as I needed to restock a few items and it requires some advanced prep work.  Ditto if I'm making soup from scratch or roasting a chicken, as they both need to be started at least two hours ahead of time.)

  • I meal plan and it's 100% me :)  I do the menu and list, decide what to have and what I feel like. It's just always what I've done, I like it that way.

That said, sometimes I'll say "is there anything you feel like this week?" and he'll give me an idea and I'll use it.  Or I'll say "I can't think of a meal... helpppp" and he'll give me one.

  • Every once in a while he'll make something on the weekend but it's almost always me. It's hard! I have a hard time thinking of different things to make.
  • I dh usually cooks since he bitches about my food
