Breastfeeding

If your breasts still feel full after a feeding, do you just wait until next feeding+

or manually hand pump it out?  TIA.

In the first few weeks I would hand express if I was engorged and uncomfortable.

  • So I keep hearing that you should NOT pump as it will cause an oversupply, but isn't hand stimulating about the same thing?  Won't that cause an oversupply too?

When I pump I get about 4 oz....when I hand express it is probably only a tablespoon. Pumping made my oversupply worse.  The only time I really had to hand express was when my breast were engorged and rock hard. Hand expressing never increased my supply.

  • I have had struggles with my supply, so if for some reason DS doesn't want to nurse or doesn't want much milk, I will pump after (if I am home and able to do so).
