Pray for me ladies....

DD is moving to her big girl bed tonight. I imagine this won't end well for me but it really hope I'm wrong. She loves it so far and is throwing all her stuffed animals on the bed with her. I have a feeling though once bedtime comes it will be a total disaster.

  • Good luck! I thought the transition with DS was going to be a nightmare and it went so smoothhly. He was around the same age as your daughter :)

  • We transitioned to a twin bed with a bed rail and a stepstool to get up and down at 17 months. He loves it and we had 0 issues.

I hope it goes just as smoothly for your DD!!

@lindalkelso‌, how did bedtime go? I hope it's a smooth transition for you.
  • It may not be that bad. Last summer, we moved my daughter to her big girl bed, which was a toddler bed. She loved the bed. She would last 2-3 hrs, wake up and want mommy. I would lay with her till she fell back asleep. Sometimes she lasted till about 7am, sometimes not. The problem was she rolls and moves so much, she banged into the side of her bed all the time or fall out of bed.

I'm October, I had to go out of town for a week. She had her Daddy but she always fell asleep on Mommy. She did fine, as long as she could sleep with Daddy. Once I came home, she held me in a death grip when she slept. She would not sleep in her bed.

She turned 2 in December. Last week, we converted our guest room, into her room and she got the queen bed. She loves it. She falls asleep in our bed, then I carry her to her bed. She tends to wake up around 4am, I lay with her for a few minutes and she falls asleep. She's then good till morning.

Except when there's a bad thunder storm. Then she wakes every hour.

We are keeping DD in her crib until 2 because I need her to not escape once DS comes. But I really want to make her a big girl room. Keep us posted!

  • Stay strong.  It took a couple weeks before my son would stay in his bed and bedtime, go to sleep without us in his room and take less than 2 hours for bedtime routine.  But once he did, so worth it :)

  • So she zonked out real fast in my arms in a chair like we always do, Set her down and she went to sleep at 9. Midnight rolls around and hell broke loose. She just wanted to be held, kept getting out of bed and just crying. I tried laying with her but it gave me indigestion to lay that flat. I send dh in there to sleep with her around 2. That time she had her blankets all wrapped around her and fell once she slid out of bed so she was hysterical. Dh set an alarm and came back to bed after an hour and a half of being in her bed. She is still sleeping now (7:30) but man am I wiped and have to go to work.

Dh is taking her Friday up to Oklahoma to see grandma. Him and his brother are honorary alumni at his high schools pow wow Saturday and I have to work. I get the day off of being mom (hello mani/pedi) but I think that may set her back. Why can't toddlers like to sleep like teenagers?

  • We just moved DS, some nights are still a struggle. He came up to bed with us probably around 2 or 3 this morning and I just let him -- I'm too tired to bring him back downstairs right now. What I've found has helped though, it our video monitor. It has a two-way walk feature, so I can tell him I love him or goodnight, or get back in bed. It's made all the difference! Also, pool noodles under the fitted sheet work well to keep kiddos from rolling out of bed if you don't have a railing for them. It'll get better!
