From concerned to total panic

So this may be TMI but I am freaking out and my doctor isn't calling me back. I'm between 7 and 8 weeks and am having bright RED spotting if I strain at all going to the bathroom. It was just every once in a while but now it's every time. Even when not pregnant I have spotting easily if it's close to my period or sex gets vigorous but this is really freaking me out now. I called my doctor an hour ago and a nurse was supposed to call me right back. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

PS - I just ran out of Kleenex at my desk dammit. Not my day!

Re: From concerned to total panic

  • Spotting even red can be normal depending on the reasoning for it, if you are concerned that your not getting a response as soon as you need go to emergent care and they will do an ultrsound to try to locate the source of the bleeding. Hope all turns out alright.

  • Is your cervix open? Spotting is normal if you're not having pain with it. If your cervix is closed, thats a really, really good sign.

Do you know where the spotting is coming from? If you are only seeing when you strain in the bathroom, it may be a hemroid (sp?).

If I were you, I'd call the doctor again.

I was thinking this too. If it's only when you strain I'm guessing you mean during a BM. Are you sure the blood is coming from your vagina?
  • I'm sure that it's vaginal. :( I'm afraid to leave my desk in case they call but I also really want to check and see if it stopped...

  • Apparently something like 20-25% of women will have some bleeding during pregnancy without it being a problem. I know it's impossible but try to relax until you get some real answers. T&P your way.

  • Try not to stress too much. I know it's easier said than done, though. I had this exact problem in both of my previous pregnancies. Always when straining, definitely vaginal bleeding and it would always taper off. It was limited to the first trimester both times and I went on to have normal, healthy pregnancies/babies both times. My doc told me I just have a sensitive cervix and to try to avoid straining. I'm 6 weeks 1 day now and honestly I am expecting to spot at some point! No fun but also not always a bad sign. Chin up! T&P your way!

  • Thanks for the advice and thoughts everyone. The nurse called me finally and made vague "it may be nothing, don't worry" noises then asked me to come in for a viability check. Not a reassuring term! Then she said they have no appt times today and booked me for late tomorrow. So I'm thinking, if it isn't a rush maybe it's OK. Then she wraps up with a 2 minute reminder to go to the ER if i have any issues overnight. Tomorrow at 3:20 cannot get here fast enough. Sigh.
